8thgen?
Yep, 2006 is the 8thgen, which will be completely redesigned, outside and under the hood. There are a million rumors on this site. i read something the other day about the 8thgen civic will have the type S engine. I DONT THINK SO! But i was personally told by a family friend who works at toronto honda that we should look for the 8thgen to have a k series engine (rsx regular engine, not no type S). Like i said, this is what i was told, nothing is for sure. But if i do get some more info, ill surely convey it to my 7thgen ppl!
At that point, it was still being discussed, and that was quite a while ago. When i go to see him next week, i hope to get some more performance info on the 8thgen!

In any event, if its a complete new gen - always best to wait a year
Ask any that have 2k1s
Myself included
My guess is that the 2006 civic would have an all new engine. I cant see why they would but a k-series engine in there. Isnt it slightly worse on mileage than the Engine we have now. With gas prices the way they are and the Civic's rep for fuel conservation I can't see them making the civic have worse mileage than it has now. My guess: new engine (not k series), little more power, little better on gas.

Honda's car that competes with the Corolla XRS is the civic SiR

This is our standard civic Sedan in Japan. Over there, the cheaper trim has a 1.5L. They have an optional 4WD system!
(btw, the Civic Sedan is about the mid-sized car in Japan.)

This is the civic hatchback in Japan. Some notable points:
-1.7L VTEC+PGM-FI engine @ 130hp accross trims (so prolly what we'd get, maybe with a higher option)
-optional 4WD (Not sure Honda would want to make the effort to offer 4WD on what's considered an entry-level car over here. 4WD on a civic does sounds excessive, but if they do it for the Matrix...)
-17km/L... (15ish for 4WD) Sounds promising... will probably fare marignally better than our current 12km/L.
-7 speed triptronic(sp?) shifting (I wonder if we'll get fully-manual. It's not popular with the narrow stop-and-go traffic in Japan)
-Maybe a rotating passenger seat (Japanese people like accessibility)
-They also talk about a specialized navigation system and internal computer, but I highly doubt that'll make it here (Most people NEED navigation systems there)
Price comparison is (in x10000 yen) 183~249 vs 186~256. So we can probably expect a similar price to the 7th gen.
If anyone ever needs help with Japanese stuff, drop a PM.

Well, I just got back from the dealership...
Talked to the sales manager who is a family friend, and he was saying that it looks like (and this is not definite) but from the looks of things, the Base model civic is gonna be a 1.8 litre, 140 HP engine. The Si will have a 2.0L 160hp engine, with i-vtec, and the SiR (yep, although its not selling too well, they are keeping it) will possibly have 200 HP.
So it looks like the current SiR engine is going to the new Si, and the RSX engine is being shared between the SiR and RSX.
Like I said this is not definite. I showed him the 7thgen site and we found a pic of what someone posted as the new 8th gen and he said it wouldnt surprise him if that was the 8thgen. He called a bunch of his salesman in the office and they all said the same thing. I was kinda pissed cuz i dont particularly like the spy pics which are supposedly the 8th gen. However, when he saw spy pics of the 2003 accord back in 2002, it was totally different in a better way when it arrived. So there is hope for a MUCH better looking 8th gen.

By the way, this is the pic we looked at... First pic posted on that link.

Im hoping it looks much better then that, but I aint gonna complain about what he said about the upgraded engines. Honda hasnt told their people anything yet, but he told me what the talk around the company is, so its all about the waiting game now.

It's all speculation right now. We still have one more year until they are released. Either way I'll get one (after 1 or 2 years of the new model being released) I'm only going to go for the new SiR, they would be smart to bring back the coupe SiR, also I heard they are going to make the car a bit longer in the front end to get rid of the mcphearson struts. GOOD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!
