Insurance Costs

Wasup everyone.

Here's the deal. I'm 20, and I just got into an accident last Janurary. My insurance premium has raised to a psychotic level, and I can't afford to pay for ****. I was previously with Ing Direct, and I used to pay 10,000 a year, as the primary driver on my Civic LX Sedan. Now, I asked my broker what Third party insurance would sum up to, and it's $10,340 per year. I'm sure you're all aware of what the difference is now.

Can anybody help me, I know I know, everyone's just gonna reply back with: It sucks to be young, it sucks to have a bad record, yes I know. But can anyone reply with some useful info? Anyone have links to cheaper insurance, or have good rates with companies that they can inform me of? Or family members who deal insurance? Anything.

What a tragedy. And I was just about to get my midpipe installed. Too bad I can't even afford to keep the car on the road.

I would try getting a quote from President's Choice (PCFinancial.ca)

They have really good rates...when my current policy (CAA) is up, I'm going to switch for sure. I'll be going from about $3000/yr down to about $2000 (!)

Get a quote on their site and see what they can do for ya...good luck!

maybe your friend's accord is under parents' name but in principal driver status

it's not unusal to hit over $10,000 for insurance, i know Terence aka TTcivic is paying well over $10,000 on his RAV4

i would suggest PCinsurance too cuz i heard they are pretty cheap.
if not then try RBC insurance and TD bank insurance online too

good luck and pray insurance go public and run by government

You really want this? Your income tax, property tax, personal tax will go up like 10-20% if the government takes over insurance .... So it "looks' cheaper, but you pay for it other ways ...

Yeah its York Fire and Casualty, I called around 30 places and they gave me the best rate, you cant go to them directly tho, you have to go thru a broker.

Also someone mentioned President Choice Insurance, Dont even bother, you have to be Old and have a perfect driving record to be considered. Theyre goin after all the old cotton heads who only drive once a week not any of us younger guys who actually drive

no, he's totally alone.

when he got the $2000 of 6 months policy, he didn't even have a license yet.
He was using junior learner permit (under 18).

it is a rare instance, but IF any of your parents have their own business, and you live with them, some cars can be put as company cars, thus allowing your parents to be primary driver on 2 cars, ultimately meaning they are the primary driver on your car and insurance drops.

i have an 03 civic, my bro has an 03 accord. we got insurance not even a yr ago and he only had his g2 at the time and because we were using our parents as primary, we are paying like $5500 or so for BOTH of us to be insured, as well as our parents just for cheaper payment purposes. to make it worse, i was 18 (meaning im labelled a **** driver) and my bro was 21 (still under my insurance company making him a **** driver)

I do hope enough ppl are in the same situation as myself and can scam/lie to insurance companies at least a bit

Lower rates only because you guys are not required to have a certain amount of liability coverage ... hell, in the south, you don't even need insurance in some states ...

Tried PC, they won't even insure me. As for York Fire and Casualty, my mother is with them. They won't insure me either. This is pure ****ery.

I'm still looking around. Anybody with other suggestions???

How can your premium be $10,000 a year? I have seen people with DUI's and countless accident's with $7,000 and $8,000 a year ... and thats in Facility ... you must have some record, or there is somehting you are not telling us ... Was the accident you were in serious, did you injure anyone?

That's not always the case.... My broker told me I'm paying an extra ~$300/yr because my car is the "high end" EL over the Civic (sedan)....

You were probably comparing the Si (coupe) or SIR?? Perhaps....

Even with 2 at fault accidents, age 23, I didn't pay $10000 a year. He probably has a few tickets under his belt.
