New to the forum with a question

Hi all. I just found this board a couple days ago and let me say that it seems to be the best one on the net. I currently drive a 96 Accord, but its time for a change. My question for everyone here since you all seem so knoweldgeable is should I go for a Civic SI now or an RSX next year? Current commitments (tuition, etc) keep me from affording the Acura but I'm afraid of regreting getting a Civic down the road. Feed back much appreciated.

first of all welcome to the boards and u will deffinitely enjoy it!! anyway, depending on ur income i suggest u get an RSX... i was also in ur situation last year... I really wanted to get the RSX but couldnt afford it so i bought a civic LX instead.... now i sold my civic and got the RSX, but i could have saved a lot more $$ if i waited on it... oh well... its well worth it now...

BTW if ur gonna get an RSX get the S!!

Hey, thanks for the reply. So were you unhappy with the civic? If I do wait till next year for an RSX it'd be a base model for a couple reasons: I don't know why, but i'm not fond of leather seats, and I've never had the chance to learn how to drive stick. I wish they offered the white in the other versions though. The look of that color alone tempts me to get a type S.

Metaphor, welcome to the boards...
as far as your problem is concerned, I suggest getting the RSX but get the Type S. If you don't like the leather seats, you can always either sell and buy a new set or trade it in for the SiR seats which I'm sure won't be that hard considering alot of people likes leather seats.
Civics aren't bad at all, it's very fun to drive and not to mention cheap too. If you like adding toys to your car and don't mind the lack of power then Civic is the way to go. IMO, I think it looks better than the RSX but the RSX definitely has alot nicer interior and Engine..

Welcome to CANEAST. dont know where your from but everyone on this board is coolz, for the exception of andoy and cue. hehehe just jokin.
im real fond of the civic. i got it b/c majority of parts are like a buck fity at the corner stre and most ppl who sell stuf here sell for a good price.

i like the rsx's too but little too much $$$ for me.

if you like the rsx engine do a swap.
if the body you like go that way.
imo

Hey, thanks for all the feedback. I can tell this board will be helpful already with all the replies. I just got back from an RSX test drive and now i'm even more undecided. Obviously the drive is much nicer, with the 160 engine and I found the cabin noise to be quieter as well. Asthetically, I love the exterior and probably wouldn't add much to it but I found I liked the Civic interior more . I appreciate the suggestions of getting the type R but I think I'll be fifty before I can afford that. I'm in my last year of school with student loans to pay back and other expenses. I'm gonna test out an SI and see if I will be happy with the power and drive it provides before I think anymore. Its causing me mad stress. A specific question for u Andoy, could u tell me how many km u get out of a full tank from your RSX? I do too much driving and $30 bucks a week on gas kills me. Thanks again everyone for all the input and hopefully one day I can do the same for someone.

I too was in the similar situation, the only difference is I COULD afford either one, but decided to go with the Civic SI. I am more than happy with my Civic, and am very glad I didnt spend more money on RSX. Why waste your money on RSX when you can get a CIVIC? Civic is a kick *** little car.

haha. swap is kinda expensive but its worth it hehe.
basically u need a whole trashed rsx to do it properly
ive definatly get the RSX if you are gonna heavily mod it but if ur tight on cash (gas) get the civic si.

welcome to the boards...

personally, if $30/week on gas "kills you", i wouldn't spend too much on a new car. you gotta think insurance as well. i would base your decision through insurance quotes.

i can do 400-450 per full tank on my rsx-s.

come to the mini meet. this friday.
my car will be set and done

civic is cheaper on insurance than rsx
civic use less gas than rsx
but rsx rape civic like there's no tomorrow regardless it is base, premium or S

so see how deep your pocket is then decide which one ot buy

and dont be cheap on gas cuz rsx need sunoco 94 only
civic use sunoco 87 is more than enough

but if i have a 2nd chance, i wouldnt buy 7th gen civic again (especially 2001 model)
i would go with german car (it's jsut me and most ppl here know i have a vw fever going on )

After a month of paychecks, I'm still broke. I finally drove an si though and came away very impressed. Its seems to have more kick then my 96 Accord. After taking all costs into consideration I think thats the best solution for me. I only got offered $5500 for my car though which I thought was really low. Anyone know what the markup on the si price is? Also recommendation on a specific dealer would be cool. Thanks.

check with insurance first! i wanted RSX or Tiburon, but my one year insurance > 4 years worth of lease payments. seriously....

if you're under 25, go cheap until you're settled down with a nice job. personally, i'd wait til i find a job AFTER i finish school, but i guess it's your money....
