DAAAAMN!
I have NEVER had SO MUCH FUN IN MY LIFE!!!
got there a little after 5:30, a little nervous. Friend of mine who'd been there a couple times rode shotgun around the track with me first 2 laps, showed me braking points and apexes. Let him off, and gunned it solo.
Track was VERY easy to learn, plenty of run off space at every turn except for the last one, solid wall there next to the spectators. That run off space was much needed, people kept running off at turn 2. Crazy dude in EG6 kept yanking his e-brake and drifting around the corners, kicking up smoke and dirt everywhere when he sometimes ran off. All imports, mostly Corollas and Civics there, one S2000. AMAZING chick in another EG6 INCREDIBLY fast, she was probably the second fastest driver there, one time I timed her at 1:01, but she was probably faster than that.
Other guy in Civic EK? (2000 hatch), suspension, tires + bucket seat, no engine mods, was probably the fastest guy there. He did 1:01 when I timed him as well, with a passenger and through traffic. YIKES.
Difference between manual vs. auto, go vs. show-that-wants-you-to-believe-it-can-go was blatently obvious. Guy in 1999 Civic 4dr auto with wing + guages got outrun by my friend in stock 1990 4dr Corolla. BADLY.

The 7th-gen really handles quite well, I'm shocked. Was perfectly predictable, didn't slip unexpectedly and easily recoverable. Could easily rotate the car on entrance using just the brake. AND they didn't overheat even after I started left-foot-braking through a couple corners. Pulled slightly to one side though under hard braking. The first corner is a fast right sweeper, I could floor it in 3rd and take it at 120klicks no sweat....ok, there was sweat, but it felt nice and stable throughout that turn. Turn 3 was tough because 1) it was a dual-radii turn, tightened up half way, and 2) on entrance to it the car is right at the top of 2nd, so have to decide whether you want to waste time shifting to 3rd and gunning it for another quarter second or leaving it to hit rev limiter and just gun it after the corner.

My tires are going to be mad at me. The front left is chewed up like mad, will take pics of that and compare with rear right, it's gone through hell! Both front tires were too hot to touch after each run, about 5 laps each give or take 2. Let the car cool about 15-20 mins between each run and went off again.

Only sad news of the day is guy in 88 Civic hatch, last lap of the day lost control on that last corner, tail swung out, overcorrected, spun the other way and smacked sideways into the wall. Hit rear passenger side, smashed out the window but car looked intact, refused to start tho when we tried to get it off the track. Poor guy.

---

Car is bone stock, except for generic F/U strut, and downgraded tires (friggin Q rated Michelins, ugh....even the crappy Firestone FR690s our car comes with are S rated)

This is at the Nelson track at Shannonville

stopwatch, hand timed:
average lap 1:04.5
fastest lap 1:03.6

have 2 vids from inside car, friend didn't record any from outside cuz didn't have good zoom lens on digicam, will post up later after I recompress and find a place to host them.

I _NEED_ to do this again!!! STRONGLY suggest everyone to try, you'll never want to race on streets again

Popkorn should not be trusted
Nice! Yeah the nelson track is pretty good cause there's not much of a straight, so it's pretty much all driver's skill throughout the track.

Yeah bad tires will hurt you on the track, tires are the most important things on the track, well actually driver's skill is first, then tires, then shocks.

cool, thanks man!
I'll see if I've picked up a set of tires by then. If anyone cared, sorry no pics of tires, but the wear didn't show up in the pics very well. The front right tire is so worn it looks like it's been cambered, and there are chunks of rubber missing from the sides, probably from me scrubbing the tires when I gassed too hard or rotated the car. If anyone knows someone selling a set of 15-16" rims and tires, please let me know!

I have Dunlop's (205/40 17") on crappy Montegi rims on my Civic right now. I cant quite remember which Dunlop's they are, but they are definately sport tires.....actually, they are fantastic tires. Am I right by assuming those tires are acceptable?

Also, whats the latest time I should show up at? I was hoping to get out there around noon.
