Northeast 7thGen Ski trip!!!
hey all,
didnt get a chance to start the thread yesterday, but whatever.
heres the idea:
who wants to get a ski trip organized for sometime when winter is in full blast and theres some good snow on the ground? some people have showed interest in doing this and helping me organize, so this is the place to throw in your input.
im thinking sometime after new years, in january. whoever is interested, we can all meet in NYC or something and then take a greyhound shuttle or one of those other buses up to the mountain. nothing too crazy like canada or like sunday river (in maine)...i was thinking of like hunter mountain in NY or mountain creek in NJ. but with the bus no ones gonna have to hurt their car goin up to the mountain and we can all chill on the ride there and watch some movies or something.
i havent really started researching the prices, but i know mountain creek offers group rates, im sure hunter does too. if you know other good mountains in the area (by good i mean something that would be fun for those that ski, but also someplace that has easy slopes for the novices).
this should definately be on a weekend, because i personally can't go on a weekday or weeknight.
so yeah...thats the idea. whos in????

Yea.....I'm definitely down for this. I have info from Ski Time Tours, which is the company I used to use to go on weekend trips. Here's some general info: The trips run to like Gore, Hunter, and a bunch of other places. They pick you up friday night and bring you back on sunday. Hotel, bus fare, and meals are included. All you have to pay for is skiing and rentals. We'd have to have a good amount of people to do this (I think, I'd have to check). It's just an idea though.
Let's get this going...I need some ski time!

im up for it! and yeah definetly on a weekend. i think that can be said for everyone probably. and set up a date in january for sure. hopefully we'll get a nice snowy winter and get some powder as opposed to ice.

i love hunter, but its a 2 hour drive for me usually so i dont go there that often. but i like that its a challenging mountain (got double blacks), and there are runs there with some bumps and jumps.
mountain creek (vernon valley) did have a bit of ice when i skied there, but unless theres also crud its not that bad. i hate it most of all when theres loose powder sitting on pateches of ice...i can never get a good balance on that crap.
love their snowboard park/halfpipe. im still scared to do any big tricks, but i do love getting some big air (on skis)!!
never been to killington, but i hear its not all that great. too packed, and too many families with kiddies. its too much hype for me really, i dunno. butif you say it was good then i have no basis to say it wasnt.
steph, i dont know how many people would wanna do a whole weekend trip, but what kind of prices does ski time tours have?? i mean if hotel, food, and transportation are included...sounds interesting.

I'll post info about the weekend trip tomorrow. I have to find all the papers. Its probably like $200...thats for like 4 people in a room. I don't know, I have to check. It's been a while since I used that company. They are really cool though. Let ya have a party and stuff on the bus and watch movies and what-not. If people are up for it, it's definitely an awesome time.

What about the people that live further south such as MD. and VA. im sure there is a place somewhere in PA in the middle that we could meet up or something like that. just a thought and my 2cents. and if we cant do that then maybe i try to see if the MD and Va and possibly PA wants to get a meet somwhere around this area.

Hmm, I didn't think about people in the "south" part of the Mid-Atlantic. They can come too of course. We are still working on this, so who knows!
Here is what I got from Ski Time Tours:
1) They run a day trip to Belleayre, Windham or Hunter Mt. (I've skiied Windham--not bad)
Cost: $57
Includes: Lift ticket, lesson (if you need it) and the bus fair
Extra: If you need to rent: skiis-$16 and board-$30
2) 3day/2night stay at Gore Mt. (I've skiied here like 3 or 4 times, not bad either)
Cost: depends on how many people are in your room 4-$215, 3-$225, 2-$240 (that's per person)
Includes: 2 night stay, bus fair, 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners, plus they take you to like clubs and things
Extra: lift tickets and rentals (I don't know how much this is.)
3) Killington Trips--there are two places to stay at, I know some of you go here!
Cost-starts at $215, I have to get more info if this is where we wanna go.
Includes: 2 night stay, hotel, and 2 full-day lift tickets
Extra: rental (again, I'd have to call.)
These are just options. It all depends on how many people wanna do this, where we wanna go, if we wanna stay over night or what. So, what's the deal people?

It all depends on what time, place, and cost this will end up being; I am interested though. Option #1 sounds allright, but it's still expensive. I found a place in MA that you can ski all day for $35 - $40 and that includes the ski rental. They have pretty good runs too. Well, for me anyway. Wait, what's it called. Nashoba Valley? Something like that.
I've skied in Colorado before and only once in MA. Colorado is the bomb! This one place called Keytstone is great. They have gondolas and it takes you 30 - 45 minutes to ski down the mountain.
Anyway, we got some black diamond skiers here? How about bouble black? Moguls? I was on green at Keystone and was quite happy, but here green is blue. Well, at least at the one place I've been to. I've been on a blue in Keystone and it was kinda steep. 45 degree or so. Yeah, I biffed once or twice on that.

Yea, you can go for much cheapier.....the stuff I posted was if we went on a bus. That way no one has to drive their civic. Also, if we did the bus thing, we would all be together on the ride...and more importantly...no one gets LOST!
I'm down for anything though. And we do have black and double black diamond skiiers/boarders and terrain park people....we also have some beginners that are interested so we have to go some place that has a good variety. Keep the ideas coming so we can make some decisions on where to go. When should we do this by the way? Dec. Jan.? We can make it like a monthly thing too....or something like that. Just ideas.

Yeah, I think the bus idea is a good one. They use mucho salt and dirt to give people grip on the roads up there and all of it ends up on the car and in the car, so I wouldn't want to take my car unless I bought those winter floormats. Then at least it wouldn't be a paint for it to get in the car.
Any beginner snowboarders out there? I've never been boarding, so I think I'de like to try that out instead of skiiing. I don't want to take lessons though. Those lessons are so lame. Plus little kids are always there, so a person with a higher learning curve (like mua
::gloat: just sits there waiting. Any seasoned boarders out there mind giving us newbie's some lessons?

What else is available besides skiing, you people should know black people don't belong on skis.
But seriously, I'll need a lesson, I've only been once and that was when I was as young as you folks.
What is the final cost decided upon, and place?

I was talking with Sivikchic last night, and she suggested we go some place that has tubing...incase some people don't even wanna ski/board but they wanna come along cause they KNOW it's gonna be a good time. So, we can check into that. We have yet to decide on where we are going....so no cost yet.
Almost any resort offers tubing, and ski/board packages for all levels. Lessons are also optional and can be ideal for most people w/ no snowsports experience. It doesn't matter what level you are, its all about fun and nothing is more fun than trying out something new. Everyone starts somewhere just don't feel like your holding anyone back.
My girl and I were up in Stratton earlier this year and I must say that the place is awesome. There's even an outlet center at the foot of the mountain.
Too bad I have my vacation leave set already and I work weekends so no dice for me otherwise I'm down.
