There are so many reasons why. Watch the news!

I don't understand why everyone is complaning about the gas prices. I know they are high. I know people can't always afford it. But, come on. You still have your house, family and job....Make a few cut backs some place else and stop bitchin'. It won't be like this forever.

And, I'm paying $3.30 for regular.

you're right, it could be worse...and it will be. the gas prices need to be lowered for the good of the american people. if it keeps up, we are on our way into another recession. when the price of oil goes up, the price of EVERYTHING goes up...but wages stay the same. this has to be stopped! bush is a f*ckin moron with a napoleon complex! he will keep putting our country farther and farther into debt. but hey, he will get richer with his family ties in the oil business!

oh, and i pay 3.30 for regular also...i'm only in the next town over

Once the supply lines get back running again, it should come back down. Supply is short because the storm knocked out the delivery lines, and shipments arent coming up in full volume, nor is the gulf refining anything. Last I heard the pipelines were running 25% of capacity, and obviously refineries are still knocked out. It'll re level itself. I honestly think the feds should have locked the price for a few weeks to stabilize it. I don't feel bad for the people with Hummers on 26's. I feel bad for the people who MUST have gas suckers (farmers, contractors, etc...) who live on their trucks to get a job done.
It was anywhere from 3.19 to 3.39 in Alexandria today.

This is crazy, i was talkin to my cousin who lives in Queens, NY and he told me that the gas went up to $3.89 for regular. I think its BS that these people can just raise the price this much cuz of the hurricane, they just want to take advantage now that they have the chance. If i had a gas station, i would keep the prices low so i get ALL of the customers, lol. Id b the richest guy in Queens rite now.

ya i believe it was 2 main pipelines that supply our gas to our region were knocked out and now are only runnin at 25% or so. and the usual 17 million of tanks that supposed to be goin out are now only goin out by 1.8 million. stations in my area have already shut down their pumps, some ran out of regular, and b.c some stations are being swarmed with people they only accepted gas. its crazy

obviously you didn't read what boilermaker said. There is an equation for how much gas stations can charge, which uses the supply available and the "average" use of the area. Then they add on their profit, which is why some are higher than others. Currently there is no supply to the area, so the price goes up. Yes, some gas stations are gouging, but it is normal for gas price to go up in an emergency like this.

I filled up on Last Last Sunday. I'm used to getting 260 miles to a tank, and filling up once every 3-4 days. I got the second to last day of regular $2.65 gas. I heard gas was going up the day after, but I only had 30 miles on my tank and neglected it.

Once gas spiked I realized this tank would have to last me. I have now gone 10 days on this same tank of gas, and probably have one more left. This is the longest I've ever gone on one tank of gas since I got my license almost 5 years ago.

When you think about it though, gas is only like an extra $6-$7 a tank. That isn't more then an average person can afford, it's just that we're not used to paying so much for it. If I paid New York prices for cigarettes, then I would be in big trouble.

One station in VA has gas pumps from the 50's and I guess people that made them back then never thought gas would go past $2.99.. so all the pumps stopped at $2.99. Lets just say, they were sold out of gas yesterday.
