*OFFICIAL* 4th Annual Mid-A Meet Planning!
Yes! It's finally that time!
Time, date and place has finally been chosen for the 4th Annual Mid Atlantic Meet! This year, it's going to be in sunny, humid Virginia Beach, Virginia! Yaaaaay!
Now, on with the details ...
Dates: August 20-21, 2005
Place: Red Wing Park in Virginia Beach, VA (More info here about the park.)
Time: start @ about 1pm
What this thread is going to be used for is for planning the actual meet. Who's going to be bringing what kind of food/drink, etc. Also, for some meet up spots and whatnot.
An idea that we're probably going to definately do is name tags this year. Cheesy, yes, but that helps everybody to actually put a name to the face on the forum and whatnot, as we don't all know each other. And yes, there will be a 'cover charge' again this year, basically to cover the costs of the meat and other perishable items that'll be provided by the locals. It'll probably be something like $5/head.
Also, I've found a hotel for everybody to stay at. It's not right on the beach, but it's right next to the interstate. Hotels on the strip are very expensive this time of year. We're talking $200+/night. That's just way too expensive. This hotel is right off the interstate, which makes it easier for everybody to get to when it's time to leave. It's a Days Inn and they said that we can have rooms for $112.50 + tax for the night. And they're double rooms, so we can cram 4 people in a room and make it cheap.
Here is the hotel in question. We just need to know how many people are definately going to be coming now so that we can start planning out food/drinks and so we can get these rooms reserved at the hotel. If you'd like to call the hotel, ask for Patel and tell him that you're with 7thgencivic. He should know what you're talking about and give you the discounted rate. The sooner, the better.
Please make sure to add the email address 7gcmidameet@gmail.com to your spam filters! This account was created espically to send out/receive info for the meets.
If it's going to be too hard to bring something from home, we do have a Farm Fresh right up the street from the park. It'd be easy to just run up there and grab something and bring it back.
One note - this is a city park. That means that there will be no alcoholic beverages allowed in the park! Just keep that in mind ...
Food/Drinks:
taz757 - meat (hot dogs/hamburgers/sausages)
dawn01civ - hot dog and hamburger buns
Directions:
You wanna take 95S to the 295 bypass around Richmond. It's on the left and it's about ~12 north of Richmond actually.
Travel down 295 for about 15 miles, to 64E towards Norfolk/VA Beach. Stay on 64E for about ~85 miles or so, until you come up onto 264E. There'll be 2 exits - Stay on the one towards Virginia Beach (2nd one). You'll want to get off at First Colonial *SOUTH*. You'll cross over Virginia Beach Blvd and as the road goes around the curve, it'll turn into Oceana Blvd. Follow that all the way down to General Booth Blvd and make a right turn. You'll have to get all the way to the left lane and make your first left-hand turn into the park. We're in shelter #3, next to the dog park. Basically just follow the road all the way down and around. You'll see it.
If you need any more help or directions, cell phone is 7572869245.

I am going to try and organize a group of us that want to meet up in Rockville and drive down together, so if you live around the area.. PM me or email me at Dawns1215@aol.com and I will make sure you know when and where to meet up.
For those of you who are up north that are coming.. If you would like for us to meet you along your way down.. let me know and we will try and meet up at a rest stop or something.

i am planning on driving down from NJ (northern...like around NYC). i am thinking of taking the "scenic" route...turnpike/95 S -> rt 1 -> rt. 13/113 -> chesapeake bay bridge -> VA Beach or hotel or park.
(unless the locals would suggest against this route) hehe
so...if anyone is down for that and is coming from the north, im down to drive down together. i have a half-day on that friday (the 19th), so i can either leave friday or whatever. i dont know how crazy i am about leaving at 5am on saturday to make the 1pm meet time.
i dont have much space in the trunk, plus the long drive, but i can stop by the store near by and buy whatever is needed once im there.
just one question about the hotel. it being a 7+ hour drive, is there a time after which they stop check in? cause if i drive down friday after work, i might get a room for 2 nights (maybe....$$ is tight), but id probably be getting there at like 11pm or later...depending on traffic.
anybody want to split a room??
no....seriously....i dont want to pay 112 by myself/night.

OK well that is def the shorter scenic route the onlyh problem though is the chesapeake bay bridge is 12 bucks to get onto. so please keep that in mind. it is shorter but you also need to think if you take 95 all the way to 64 and then here it will def be longer but more then 12 bucks worth of extra gas. ur call. is a nice drive thoughi make it all the time up to philly

It's a nice drive to come down Rt 13 and whatnot, but it'll also slow you up quite a bit. Most of the little podunk towns that you have to drive through have speed limits of 35 or 45.
If you come down 95, you can do 75+ easily. Also, you'd be able to caravan with all of the MD/DC/NoVA people coming for the meet too. Those are always fun.

Taz, as i mentioned...any thoughts on these restaurants for breakfast??
Angelos by the Sea-2809 Atlantic Ave.
Jewish Mother-3108 Pacific Ave.
Golden Griddle Pancake House-901 Atlantic Ave
Honeybee Pancake House-2314 Atlantic Ave
Waffle Company-1710 Pacific Ave
those are all that sounded like breakfast place in a 5 mile radius of the park where the meet is.

I'm plannin on leaving either friday early afternoon or saturday morning. I'm comin out of Burke, VA, which is really close to 495 and 95. I'm lookin to split a room for both nights with someone, but if I can't find anyone for the first night then just the second night (Sat). Also, if anyone is leaving on Friday, then maybe meet up at some point and head down together.

I *cannot* stress this enough - if you are coming to the Mid-Atlantic meet, you really need to call up the hotel and make reservations. The hotel cannot guarantee or hold the rooms for us without a reservation. We really need you guys to start posting in the sticky thread or at least take a look at the list and PM some pepole to try and figure out who wants to stay in the room and who's going to take the lead and reserve the room. Virginia Beach is a *very busy* tourist/vacation spot in the summer. These rooms will be gone by the time the meet rolls around.
Please call the Days Inn at 757-473-9745 and tell them that you're with the group 7thgencivic. They should know what you're talking about and give you the room for $112.50 + tax for the evening. If they don't know, ask for Patel and tell him what's up. He knows what's going on and should be able to get you straight.
You guys really need to get on this. There's not much more that I can do. There are still 9 rooms 'available' for us for the group. If need be, we can always cram more than 4 people in a room, I'm sure.

I went ahead and booked a double smoking room for the night of 20 Aug. Total for the room was $129.12. I'm sure we could fit 4 people in there. If the others are not smokers thats fine, we just won't smoke in the room. PM me if you want to share the room.

ok jersey people ....whats the exact meeting place for the caravan on sat ... i would of liked to drive down there on fri but i work till 6pm and after a 12 hr shift i'm not really down for that ride anyhow i might probably drive down to md for the night then do the other half on sat ...anyhow someone let me know about time and place

I have gone up to 27 mph on a 6 hp motor. It's indoors and costs 22 bucks for 1 race for about 10 minutes. You have to wear racing suit, gloves, head sock, and helmet.
Send me a pm and I can get you the address whatever else.

lol All the VA people should come up with a place to meet up so that the group from Rockville can make a pitstop there. I was thinking that since VA is so spread out that Fredricksburg would be a good place. Its right on 95, only about an hour south of DC and just north of Richmond. I don't know what time the Rockville crew is planning on leaving, but it should be about an hour and 20 min from them.

List of rest stops in Virginia
In my opinion, the best one for you guys to meet up at would be the Dale City rest stop on 95S. That's the first rest stop in Virginia when travelling south. It's at mile marker 155.
Then there's the Fredericksburg Rest Area/Welcome Center at mile marker 131.
Then Ladysmith rest stop at mile marker 107.
(Listed in chronological order from north-south, before having to get onto 64E.)
Hope that helps give you guys some ideas ...

that rest area is easy to get in and out of and there's a long entrance ramp to fit all of the cars, and if you stop there its about 2 1/2 hrs from va beach i live right near that rest area
I think that the Fredricksburg stop would be the best. Its pretty easy for both NoVA people and Richmond area people to reach, and would possibly cut out a second stop in the area. Also, has a time been decided the the Rockville area people are meeting up and leaving? Would be good to know so that a time could be decided to meet at the rest stop.

ok, fredericksburg is about 3 hours from virgnia beach. So lets say meet at the rest stop (mile marker 131 on 95 South) at 9:15am, leave by 9:45am. That gives a half hour for stragglers and and hour for everyone from Rockville to get down there. Should be easy to do on a Saturday morning.
Input from the VA people would really help!
