North Jersey People...need your help
whats up all?
im doing some searching to buy a condo/apt type of thing and i wanted to find out what people thought of decent areas to look/live? there are a bunch of listings for jersey city, west new york, north bergen, etc. the thing is, i dont really know these areas really well, so i dont know if there are some parts i should avoid because they are rough neighbrourhoods or whatever.
right now i live in river edge (bergen county), and my budget is under $200k...so places like hoboken are kind of out of that range. but give me ideas of where would be cool. particularly in JC. give me some street names/regions that i shouldn't even bother looking at, and areas that are good. it would be nice if there are hang out spots in the area, but its really not a necessity. i mean, i can always drive to hoboken or take a train to nyc if i want to chill somewhere.
so please, can anyone help? oh yeah, im looking in bergen, hudson and union counties ONLY. not looking to go anywhere farther south than JC.
edit: bayonne might be ok also...dont know, why not? haha
thanks all!!!

The condos near the river in jc are very nice. Its a good area and only a path train ride away from Hoboken and NYC. There's Newport Mall in walking distance. I'm not sure how expensive those condos can get though, and I think that they're hard to get. That downtown area of JC is on the rise and the property value should increase. If I had the money, that is where I would want to live.
Stay away from streets like Martin Luther King drive, ocean ave, monticello, just to name a few... Thats more towards the westide of JC. Also another good place would be the society hill right off route 440. I've been to a couple of those condos? and they're really nice. Not sure if they are actually condos but most society hills have condos so... anyway good luck with the search

hey bigdog, i might just do that when it gets a little closer to when im looking to buy. right now im just in the reasearch stage and seeing where to concentrate on looking. but thank you, i will definitely be taking you up on that offer.
my best friends mom is a RE agent, so im gonna talk to her and see if she can help me out or if the area im looking at is out of her coverage area.
terrorofic and speedricer, yeah...society hill looks like a great area, but waaaaaaay out of my range. looks like 300k-500k range. i saw a posting for a 1br condo for like 300k...insanity.
keep the comments coming guys. thanks a lot!!!

manhattan ave (around pershing field) didn't know they had condos there.. i personally don't like that area, not that its dangerous but just seems.. bleh..
harrison ave (around lincoln park?) the neighborhood can get bad, a lot of thugs around there, and the projects are right down duncan ave, which is adjacent to Lincoln park.
Kennedy blvd. right by journal square gets crowded. right by the path and bus station so its not bad.
