I'm moving.....
To DC.... and I'm leaving this hopeless wasteland of the Midwest behind without a care.
I got a job with the US Patent office that starts the 27th of June... which gives me a little over 3 weeks to find a place to live in. With an office in Alexandria, where's good to live? Its been probably 8 or 9 years since I've been to DC and I'm sure everything with the exception of the White House address has changed. So I want to be on/near the Metro, live someplace where I won't get shot at leaving, is somewhere near where stuff is going on (suburbia hell is not really where I want to be), and some place where I have a chance to work on the car (unless someone is volunteering their driveway in suburbia hell, which I'll exchange for helping work on said person's car). So yeah, another suspension guru moves to the area.... Anyone needs help putting stuff together or doing alignments in ways no alignment shop will do it for you (I have alignment gear), I can do it. I'll be looking for autocrosses and track days as well, so I hope you guys like doin some racing.

What's your price range....Metro wise....Springfield would be nice. Some parts in Alexandria in Oldtown (expensive though) But Tyson, Springfield, Burke, Fairfax, in that General area.

Have to look it at by county.
PG county, MD = East side of the beltway, some parts are crappy others are good, probably the cheapest place to live.
Montgomery County, MD = North West side of beltway, gets more expensive the closer you get to DC. Probably the furthest away from your job
Fairfax county, VA = the closest to where you need to work, can be expensive
DC = Expensive and no where to work on car
Louden county, VA = a little further away from work, but nice quiet county. Near dulles Airport.
Give me a call tonight after 8pm or tomorrow anytime and we can talk. I will try to get you some apt guides from the areas.

my aunt is a realtor so she could get you some listings for the area. if you want, you could give her a call. send me a PM and we can set something up.
fairfax county is so expensive, but a really nice place to live in. loudon county is also a very nice area - very little to almost no crime. it can become weird though living in the middle of nowhere. it tends to turn into country out in loudon county. lol

Loudoun= country? hmm. never knew that... Moved from fairfax to Fauquier in '97 my father's been commuting to and from ever since... not a bad drive... I believe he works near alexandria. you might consider checking it out. Plenty of places to work on a car out here.
haha most people consider that country if they live close to the city dude like most consider woodbridge country and im like hold up there's so much traffic here and all i see is buildings no trees here

are you looking to buy or rent? Reston and Herndon in VA are where a lot of the big companies are and that includes goverment jobs. So I would definitely suggest Northern Va to live cause thats kinda like the center of everything but living cost is kinda high here like Robb mentioned. So are any of the areas that are immeadiate to DC. BTW, I do have a brand new studio condo for rent if youre looking for that sort of thing and a 1 bedroom as well. Both located in heart of Reston which is located near the toll road, DC, Alexandria and the Dulles airport. Didnt mean to do business here lol! Give me a PM if you want to call me bout anything.

just don't forget to account for flow of traffic when you decide on where you want to live.
If you have to go towards DC in the morning and away from DC in the evening, you'll be in traffic hell.
Then again, if you have to go away from DC in the morning and towards DC in the evenings, you'd probably be living in DC or REALLY close to it. HAH.
also, the cheapest place to get gas in northern Va is probably manassas, va (about 10 minutes away from fairfax/chantilly/centreville area).

I would say springfield. Although its the the epitomy of suburbia its nice and peaceful. You are near everything in Springfield! The mixing bowl is close by and should give you easy access to most of the surrounding area, unless you go on it during rush hour. The springfield and fairfax county parkway also gets you to places without much traffic. I donno about all the springfieldians who hate this place, but i love this area.!
hmmm.....you will be working with my parents
they've been with the U.S. Patent for a little over 15 years

I'm back home... I found a place. I'm gonna live downtown, cuz I wanted to.
I'm living across Connecticut ave from the Zoo, and taking the subway to work.
