Need a good mechanic in Western Suffolk

Hey yall,

Haven't been on the site in a while. Mainly because I don't have my civic anymore. I'm driving around in a 99 VW Passat V6. Sweet ride. I love it but I have to say its not as reliable as the Japanese cars.

I been having these odd problems - sounds and smells and stuff - coming from the car that nobody seems to be able to find and fix. Its just one of those things. Your car makes this noise - sometimes - so you take it to the mechanic and it NEVER makes the noise while the car is there. So the mechanic says "theres nothing wrong with it"

OR

you get one of these crack-jobs "yea this part is bad - you need to get a new one of those" so you pay to change it - and that doesnt fix it so you take it back and he says "oh then it must be this part - change that part" so you pay to have that changed and that doesnt fix it "oh its not that? well um ... change this part then" - so you pay to have that changed - but that doesnt fix it either

I need a MECHANIC. not a frigin part-changer who's too busy or too inept for figure out the real problem. a mechanic! a REAL mechanic. One who TAKES THE TIME AND EFFORT to really really really look at the car and test drive the car - look, listen, smell, touch, taste - FIGURE OUT WHAT IS *REALLY* wrong with the car.

Sooooo ... can you recommend someone in the Western Suffolk Area of Long Island New York? It would be great if they work on European cars too. I would be MUCHO grateful.

By the way - i tried doing search to see if anybody had a similar question before - it sucked. I remember search used to return meaningful hits - now it just sucks.

civicdude will become famous soon enough
Dude I wish you spoke to me before buying a VW. I used to work for Legend Autorama in Amityville which is a VW dealer and I wouldnt recommend anyone buying one. They have so many problems....from wierd smells and sounds to full blown electric problems and tranny problems. You are just lucky you didnt get the 1.8turbo motor.

hicksville and islip both beat going to little neck, queens.

i had my vw actually before the civic - i've had a few problems but nothing too bad. im willing to put up with it because the cars are just so darn nice when they do work. my problems arent majors ones - they're just really stinkin hard to find.

of all the places i took it to - only this guy found a problem. a loose control arm in the suspension. he knows his stuff. i just dont feel like driving to little neck. but oh wells. - im going to him for a tune up tomorrow.
