Vinh and Freddy

Hey guys, yesterday I drove down to VA to have my Ground Control coilovers installed by Vinh(VinH) and Freddy(sexcivic2k1). I had never met these guys before but I read good things about them. Everything went well. Installation took about 4 hours for the combined two trips (the first trip I had the wrong sleeves so I had to send the sleeves back to GC and wait for the correct ones to come) and after everything was installed..we took my car out for a ride to be sure everything was alright. These guys are good ppl who I recommend going to if you need anything installed in the Mid-Atlantic region. Much appreciation goes out to Vinh and Freddy.

Finally slammed

Research Essay: Final Draft

Childhood can be remembered as the time a child scrapes his knee on the charcoal asphalt or when he plays baseball on the sandlot. It is a carefree life of playing in the sun but the Internet is gradually changing these traditional ways. The fast growth of the Internet has revolutionized society in the United States in many ways that are economically beneficial. At the same time, it is socially detrimental by depriving a child from an important time period of his life. It is fact that the Internet can establish friendships, laughter, and entertainment but it has slowly separated children away from being a child. Learning to use the Internet is a skill that can be adapted at any age but the enjoyment of being a child can only be done in the early years of life. Reminiscing the wonder years of a person’s past has a priceless value. A childhood experience is essential to building character in a person but now with almost every home equipped with an Internet connected computer, children can find themselves easily attached to the addicted device. Many endless hours is spent on the net doing unproductive activities instead of using it for its original purpose, education. Therefore, if parents allow extensive Internet privileges to their kids it will have a detrimental impact on the child’s safety, physical, social, and mental development. By limiting or postponing Internet usage at home until after childhood will result in a better maturing process. The generations of the past grew up without the Internet and if these conservatives way are changed, then it may lead to a child’s downfall in the long run.

With the increase in Internet usage, The Internet lacks something that television may teach, the real world. Parents can teach their kids to identify which characters are the antagonist and protagonist on a television show but it is far too difficult to identify them on the net. Children between ages three and five should not be allowed to use the net at all because they cannot distinguish fantasy from reality and therefore, they are at an age where they cannot comprehend good and bad. They are unable to apply anything they learned and their attention span lasts approximately ten to fifteen minutes [Demner, 2001]. Children under the age of twelve have not mentally developed or understand certain expressions such as the concept of sarcasm. Thus, it is likely they will be bewildered or offended by figures of speech that has no intentional purpose. The Internet is considered relatively new and it may take decades for the general public to grasp to scope of it. Parents should teach their kids about real life situations before trying to tackle it on the Internet to dodge several distressing consequences will come about if they let their kids use the Internet at an age when they are not ready.

The Internet is an intercommunication cyberspace with people from all over the world and all types of people. Safety and protection of children on the net is a major concern for parents. It is often that parents underestimate the potential dangers of the net; to let a child go unsupervised on the net is similar to letting a child run free in a city. Most parents today did not grow up with Internet access and thus, not accustomed to making decisions about technology they do not understand very well [Niolon, 1999]. Currently, there is an estimate of ten million children who use the Internet and their “trusting natures, curiosity, and naivete make them perfect targets for perpetrators to exploit them” [Gillis, 2001]. It is in a child’s nature to seek attention and affection which makes them more vulnerable to becoming a victim of Internet crimes against children. According to the Department of Justice, one in five youths received a sexual approach or solicitation over the Internet and only a fraction of the encounters were reported to a parent or authority. Children often find these confrontations disturbing, or affecting their self-esteem in some way, and are likely to try to suppress their feelings from an adult due to the shame of being embarrassed, humiliated, or ridiculed. Children under ten simply do not have the mentality to distinguish or suspect a person with a malicious intent. The anonymous user on the other side of the computer can easily lure a child into revealing his or her location, age, and other sensitive information that should be kept private. With the protection of their text, it is likely that more and more guileful users will prey on a youthful victim since the Internet is an unregulated global medium and it would be too difficult to censor out the dangerous criminals. However, the government is making great strides into developing child-safety tools and increasing law enforcement agencies’ role in policing and prosecuting online predators [Gates, 2001]. Still, no program can be infallible and the majority of the responsibilities still lie in the hands of the parents. By restricting chatroom access or any source of online contact, it will minimize the chances of a child coming across a person with a devious intent. It is still a game of dice and therefore, if Internet usage was not allowed at home, it would be the most promising defense against online consequences.

Other legality issues that children are unaware of are copyright laws. People of all age violate copyright laws such as illegal downloading of music on the net and it has become a major issue for government agencies. Since children are not old enough to understand the ethics behind file sharing of copyrighted material, parents may be liable, prosecuted, and fined for their child’s download of a single song. Parent have to teach kids and let them “understand that not everything they see on the Internet is true…it's important to consider the source and think for themselves” [Magid, 1999]. Youths justify what is correct by observing other people’s action and sometimes it is too difficult for a parent to teach what is considered illegal and legal. The best alternative is allowing the Internet to be used at school where it is regulated under optimum conditions in avoidance of legal issues.

Grade schools are beginning to consider and use the Internet as a primarily educational and developmental tool [Demner, 2001]. The study at Kids.net indicates that most kids to use the Internet for fun, games, e-mail, chat and instant messaging which may again led to potential dangers but elementary and secondary schools make it a priority to try to disable sources of online communication. Schools follow many practical guidelines set by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 on the Internet to attempt to prevent potential exposure of children to controversial information. If schools are beginning to adopt using the Internet then it would be in the best interest of the parents to let their child use the Internet only at school where it is under the supervision of an experienced instructor. The majority of kids use the Internet at home and at school. Parents do not always have the time to sit down beside their children to surf the net with them and tend to let them wonder in cyberspace. Even with the establishment of the filtering content, kids may eventually find ways around the restrictions and crack open the lock to the dark cyber world.

The primary reason for parents purchasing a computer at home is for educational purposes. Children are becoming to depend on the Internet, or computers in general, as much as adults do. Parents are beginning to face a new dilemma of how extensive use of the computer by children creates health hazards. According to the U.S. Department of Education, the number of students who use a computer to an all-time high of 76 percent in 1998 and studies indicate that the number of "wired" children will continue to rise. Health risks are a concern for parent as prolong computer activity may lead to some health hazards such as vision impairment, fatigue, and an unfit physique. A common ailment that has arose is known as Computer Vision Syndrome sometimes known as cybersquint, where symptoms may include dry, irritated, strained, and stressed eyes [Wiseley, 2004]. The American Optometric Association indicates that more than 10 million Americans are affected by at least one of the symptoms. Since computers are becoming integrated into family life, the number of children using corrective lens is increasing [Wiseley, 2004]. Many parents believe that if “the average child will spend 100 fewer hours watching TV each year, and will likely reinvest most all of this time into on-line activities,” then vision impairment is inevitable [Niolon 1999]. However, when a child uses a computer, they tend to sit focused and within the recommended twenty inches from the monitor which puts their eyes more at stake than a television set. A growing child’s eye does not stabilize until he or she has reached a young adult age and if long hours in front of a computer presume, then he or she may have poor vision in the long run, a disability that is easily avoidable. The encouraging or promoting of outdoor activities by parents will allow for a healthier physical development as oppose to letting their child spend longsome hours on the computer.
However, the extended use of the computer by children has a less substantial impact on the physical development as compared to the social affects.

There are many studies being conducted on the study about the social behavioral affects of extensive Internet use by children. The Internet is an instrument that connects people but simultaneously it is isolating them. When habits are learned young, it is difficult to change. Psychologists have identified compulsive usage of the Internet as a disorder called Internet Addiction Disorder, IAD, where “such use has a detrimental effect on their physical, psychological, interpersonal, marital, economic, or social functioning” [King, 1996]. During a youth’s childhood experience, it is critical to learn basic interaction skills among his or her peers. With the Internet consuming all of the child’s time, he may learn how communicate with people on a computer medium but at the cost of learning to interact with others on a personal level. When it is realized that the person wants to seek out the missing element in their life, it may already be too late. The rejection from social groups can trigger a state of depression and the individual will revert back to living his or her social life in a computer based environment. The “increase in use of the Internet may be linked to increases in loneliness and depression” and where thousands of people are prescribed anti-depression medications annually to cope with reasons [Gross, 2004]. Anti-socialism is emotionally deteriorating to a person’s self-esteem. The Internet is an addictive drug

Anti-social because they have not grown up learning to interact with their peers and environment because they grew up on the Internet. When the child grows up in the future and realizes there is something missing in their life, it may be too late to experience all the joys that life offers.

One of the leading prescription drugs dispensed is anti-depression and anti-anxiety medication.

Anxiety due to being afraid of rejection by their peers. A

Children are beginning to heavily rely on the Internet as their primary learning and resource tool. The Internet is changing intellectual development process Majority of research is being done on the Internet. Research in libraries is an unfamiliar concept to most children.

Youths sometimes do not have the experience to validate such information on the web since the web displays information whether it is fact or fiction. The Internet’s purpose was to be a place for information retrieval. The majority of kids use the Internet for entertainment purposes and it is rare that a child can be found reading up on health articles. It will divert their attention towards games,

[state how often kids play games]

may be similar to the concept of abstinence where the safest alternative of avoiding online consequences is waiting until a proper state of mind is developed.
If a child begins to use the Internet exclusively at home then they might forgo their main priority, education. However, if parents stress education upon a child at an early age then they can train them to make it their obligation.

Childhood experiences build the character of a person. The Internet is a useful resource tool but not a necessity. Children under the ages of twelve should focus their attention on learning the basic interaction skills because the Internet will deprive the child from his or her social life.

It would be in the best interest of the parents to limit and supervise the use of the Internet to their child at home.

It would be in the best interest of the parents to limit Internet use for their child until an age when their mind is a little more developed.
