Sentra SE R Spec V
I wanted to sell my civ, and buy one of these. I like it a lot, and the motor is big to please my low rpm driving wants. What do you guys think of the spec v?

Its a nice car...A few of my friends have them. The only bad feedback I have gotten on the car is that it has no traction in the rain or snow....but other than that it is a great low price preformance car with plenty of mods available. I would wait for the 04 to come out though....They changed the look of the front and the rear a little...and the interior also.

eh my friend has an 02 .. and yeah its quick .. not as fast as say a K20 civic or anything ..but its quick .. but the quality sucks ***** ... its fallin apart .. and it drives like am onster. The 6 speed needs a road map on the shifter ... doesnt shift smoothly at all IMO .. If you're gonna spend that much get a 2-3yr old WRX

THe old one was better, handled much better, Had a better Drivetrain. If you could put the new motor in the old one it would be even better.

why do people on here always diss nissan's quality...I've had an 300zx and a nissan se-r which I beat to hell, both of them and had little problems w/ them. My bro has my Se-r now and w/ 190,000 it still smokes my 01 ex.....he's had no problems either, so I don't understand it.......I mean I feel nissan is right up there with honda and toyota
I agree bluestreak, my first car was a nissan maxima 84' and that had 200,000+ miles, then I had a nissan 240sx 89' (miss it) both 5speed and both had no problems EVAR. I'd definitely buy another one although I've heard of a lot of problems with cars being assembled in Mexico (Nissan and VW)

Well, I just took a test drive and it was not all that special. The interior was modest but the performance was not that great. It gets to speed pretty easily, but does not have enough "special" quality to make me take the time to sell my car, and then spend more to buy this one. It does look great, but for about 14,500 for an 02, I can just keep moding my civ, or wait until something really good comes out. Its like halfass sport car. Looses value tooo fast.
Nissan are great in quality. I owned a 300ZX and would buy another I could. I raced my car everywhere and it still had no problems. The friend I sold it to loves it and still drives it for fun seeing that he now has a Sentra SE-R Spec V and I have driven both. I am amazed with the Sentra. I didn't think it would have that much kick. It blew my Civic out of the water and he spent less for it than I did for my Civic.
I LOVE NISSAN! They're fun

a buddy of mine has an 02 black spec v .. and its soo nice lookin, that car is hot and i love it .. its quick 2 .. I could only imagine how much faster it would be with MODS. ... worth the 18g's he payed.

There is nothing wrong with Nissan quality... let's not forget who built the 300ZX and GT-R with bullet proof trannies. Of course the old school SE-R with that SR20 is better built.... the only problem I have with the SE-R is the potential. If youre going to spend the $$, maybe an Si or something b/c a semi hyped up Altima engine might not be for you.

I would go as far to say that Nissan's build quality is better than Honda's (Not that Honda's isn't good...). I had a 89 Sentra before and that thing didn't rattle like my Civic does. My mom has an 03 Altima 3.5SE and that thing feels pretty solid (no rattles...). I would've gotten an SER Spec-V, but I didn't like the way the back end looked - it's too round. Not to say I'm not happy with my Civic; it's a good car, but I'd be surprised if my next car wasn't a Nissan (350Z....right, I wish...).
Every few cars have their problems. Even Honda has their problems too. I've heard people on this board who have already had to get a new tranny and the car is at the most 2 or so years old. And when you have a 350Z, you just get it fixed and go back to having fun while never going sad.
all of you are talking about 300zx's, 240's and old maximas. they are indeed excellent cars, but the subject of this thread is the new SE-R. to me, all the new nissans aren't built very well. i have several relatives that own various maximas, altimas, pathfinders, and friends with SE-R's, and they all tell me the new nissans are pieces of ****. in nissan's case, it seems like "they don't make 'em like they used to."

My friend bought one about 6 months ago, and since then, his engine is burning oil, he got it fixed under warranty and then 2 days later the tranny went out. Then when he got it back, the engine ****ed up again and is currently at the dealership. Its a fast *** car but i dont knwo about the dependibility. He doesnt drive it that bad either. Only gets on it everynow and then.

I seriously considered the spec v when looking at the civic. I found out that they were known for burning oil and I think 1 other issue. I can't remember. I am pretty sure those issues have been resolved. In the end, I couldn't get over the rear end of the car and the interior just didn't give me a sense of overall quality.
Nissan makes good cars but they continue to be behind honda and toyota in overall brand reliability. Nissan wasn't doing very well for quite some time. They have regrouped and gotten back on track in the past couple of years.
Anyhow, the spec v is fast....and that's about IT.
