?'s about Turbo Type R
Well in my pursuit to get a faster car i found a turbo Type R. For financial reasons it would have to be a dealer i got it from. So anyway, its a 2000 Type R turbo. The dealer has paperwork for everything done to it including a dyno chart. The turbo was installed at a local Acura dealership and was owned by a 43 yr. old man. The dyno says 280.2 fwhp. I know its not always a good idea to buy cars that have mods done to them but its a Type R turbo. If its possible for me to get should i do it or bad idea? BTW it has about 37000 miles on it. Turbo install is very clean. My dad says its one of the nicest installs hes seen and hes been working on cars his whole life. No black or white smoke out of exhaust when started. No dents or scratches. Didnt have time for a test drive but i will soon enough.

umm yea.. what color was it? cause i dont think it would be wise to turbo a type r... cause its high compression... and 280 just doesnt seem like that much of a gain... from 200...
its yellow, they are asking 18900. the stock hp on a type r is actually 195. i think a stock type r on the dyno has about 160 something hp and to go to 280 hp on the dyno is over 100 hp to the wheels. i think thats pretty good.

don't like the sound of it
the engine of the type-r has high compression, and then they threw a turbo in it with no other mods?
sounds like the motor is at the end of it's life, and the owner is going to trade it in for it's worth before it dies.
i am sure you all say the b18c5 is a bullet proof engine design to handle high compression and high power
but i don't think it's bullet proof enough to handle high boost like a 3sgte (say.. 300-500rwhp with stock internals?) or a 2jz, which are designed to run boost
and 18900 for a turbo charged ihr... that just seems funny to me, especially they ar eso rare, and the last time i tried to buy one, stock... they quoted me 24000 for one...
ofcourse they are going to say it's a old man, are you going to buy it if it was driven by the punk kid? it's like they say, "every jdm engine that arrives are the usa is guarenteed to have 40k miles or less" (would you buy a jdm motor that has more than 40k miles on it? consider this, one of the favorite japanese past time is to bring the car to the track? so you ar elooking at at least 1/4 of that motor's 40k miles was on a track. that's 10k miles!)
and if it's true, why would a 43 year old man buy a ihr and turbo charge it? because he want to drive at 5mph? ofcourse he beat on it and raced it, even if it was his midlife crisis thing

How much boost is it running?
Type Rs can be turboed on stock internals but they are notorious for blowing if your boosting too high. The stock internals are not the best for F/I.
I'd personally buy the car, take off the turbo and sell it. Keep the car N/A because it will definitely last longer without it even if you beat the **** out of the engine.
If I were you, I'd go to Honda-tech.com's ITR forums. There is a fair # of boosted Rs there but not a lot of R owners would go that route for improving HP.
The previous owner probably sold it because he wanted something better - which in any case sounds good to me considering how challenging it is to make that engine run flat 12s when you can get better results from another car. He might've sold it because it was a theif magnet, or a cop magnet as it really is. It's not all fun and games for an Integra Type R owner.

My dad has a gsr and all he can talk about is how he wants a blower for it. I've tried to talk him into it but mom won't let him.
Personally, I would get the car, but get a waranty with it, Acura warranties are 50k i believe so make sure this waranty is intact, if not, tell them you want at least some type of coverage.

Sounds like its too good to be true. 18900 for a 2000 ITR? Thats just about blue book for a stock one. If a car dealer gets a hold of one its going to be marked up at least to $20K for a stock one. This one is turbo it just seems too good to be true.
Also turboing an ITR isn't the best way to get HP, they are built for all motor and respond to all motor better.

Just like Voiceofid said, it won't be long before the motor blows. ITRs have high compression motors that are designed to be N/A. Unless you have a good amount of money to dump into this ITR to redo the internals for the boost, dont' waste your money on it. Cause you know that if you get it you will be beating the crap out of it. And driving it like that, the motor will not last very much longer.
