About $3000 to $5000 to have a car shipped from Japan to the States. I believe it's actually cheaper to have it shipped to Canada because of tax issues, not sure though.

But then you would still have to pay the fees to bring it from Canada and register it here. Plus I think there's some expensive safety things you have to do also. I've heard that you have to change all the glass to US spec when you bring a car from Germany. I don't know if it's true - I wonder if there's anything like that with J-cars.
One simple GOOGLE search was all it took.Importing your car into the U.S.

Here's an idea when it comes to importing a Supra for instance from Japan. Couldn't you possibly just buy a salvaged Supra here in the USA and simply transfer all the VIN numbers onto the Supra you imported from Japan? Alittle sneaky but that way there's no legalization costs involved.
I'm sure those Supras at that particular lot don't have alot of miles on them, maybe 35,000 so if you figure the cost of the car is $14,000, plus $5,000 for shipping, and another $1,000 on taxes you're paying $20,000 for the car. Pretty cheap considering the mods they already have and the current market value of Supras here.
Then it's just a matter of finding a salvaged Supra on eBay, doesn't have to be the TT either, just any MKIV Supra will do and switch the VIN numbers. You could also use the salavaged Supra to convert your JDM to left-hand drive.
Would this work? I'm sure it wouldn't work in Cali with all the car laws on the books there, but in states that don't really car about emissions, etc (like Michigan), maybe? Any comments? I'm sure I've simplified the process.

Just found a wrecked TT Supra on eBay for $7,000. Here So add that to the costs I outlined earlier and you've paid $27,000.
Not cheap by any means. However, you can part out the salvaged Supra's seats, wheels, engine, and then sell the rest of the frame and parts to a junk yard for $1,000. The 2JZ-GTE is easily $3,000 on eBay. So you'd make back part of your money that you spent on the wrecked Supra.
I still think it's an interesting idea, it would just require a decent amount of start-up cash.

Your forgetting the complete fact that transfering the VIN would be a federal offence and if you got caught doing it your a** would be thrown in jail so qucikly it wouldn't be funny.

It was early in the morning, but I knew I was forgetting something important and that was the important part.
