Mechanical question on downshifting
Hello all. I'm fairly new to the site, but I've done a lot of reading so far. After *searching* and reading many posts regarding downshifting, double clutching, and rev-matching (including "the art of downshifting," "to downshift or not to downshift," and the "Shifting Techniques" by Brian Brown), I have a question on the double clutch part. Brian Brown states on page 12 in his article:
"As the shift lever passes through neutral, momentarily let up the clutch pedal at the same time the throttle is being blipped. If it's done correctly, the shift lever should slip into place much easier than without double-clutching, expecially when going from fifth to third."
I have found that at almost any time, I can push the clutch down and move the shifter to any gear (except 1st, of course, and 2nd depending on the speed). I've also found that in my car, there isn't much of a difference when blipping the gas with and without double-clutching.
Is there a difference mechanically between blipping when in neutral and leaving the clutch down while blipping???
(I'm not really interested in people's opinions on whether or not to downshift. I know that has been covered already.)

Yes, there is a difference, if the car is in neutral and the clutch is out, and you "blip" that is going to make it easier for you to get into gear, and if you do it perfectly, you don't even have to push the clutch in to get it into gear.
Blipping the throttle with the clutch all the way in, does nothing in terms of making it easier to get into a gear, because the transmission is disconnected from the engine at that point. Now, if you're already in gear, and you blip before you let the clutch out, it will make for a smoother transistion.
did I answer your question???
