BHP...what does it mean?
when referring to a car's HP rating, what does BHP stand for? i see it mostly describing european cars.

It almost identical to wheel horsepower... just not measured on the wheels. A dyno wheel has a known force that your wheels have to go against to spin it... that's why it's wheel horsepower. Brake horsepower puts a known force against your driveshaft, which acts like a brake, and the driveshaft has to have a certain power to pull free.

Actually, BHP is the HP at the flywheel. It is also known as fan horse power, the fan, in this case, is the flywheel (spins just like a fan). The formula is easy:
HP = (Torque x RPM) / 5252
You can see that at 5252 RPM torque will always be equal to hp. When you look at a dyno, the lines should always cross at that point.
