Does Toyota Car Dealership Need The DESTINATION Fee?

I have talked to many dealers, willing to buy a car at the time and I would say things like.. "another dealership has it for MSRP - $1750, can you beat that price", but the dealer will say, "that is not the MSRP you mentioned"... and so my question is... when I calculate the invoice/MSRP, do I include the destination charge for Toyota? Because Honda ignored the destination charge.

The destination charge (essentially shipping) will be the same from dealership to dealership, no matter where you are in the country. Heck, the dealership can be located right next to the factory and they will still charge the destination fee. Some manufacturers have 'factory pickup', where you go to the factory and pick up the car yourself. Then they don't charge the destination fee.

Of course you can't compare the destination fee between two different manufacturers. (ie: honda -vs- toyota)

I would just compare 'out-the-door' price, which means you would include the destination fee.

I don't thin it would matter between dealers if you do it the same at each one and let them know because the charge will be the same at the dealers for the same brand car....

Sales people usually never talk about destination, tax and licensing over the phone. But like mentioned above, the fee should be the same. In San Jose, remember to add about 10% for tax and licensing to the price you negotiate. I know this since I bought my last two cars in San Jose. When you get down to negotiating, dont forget to mention the 3% dealer holdback that Toyota dealers get. Dont know what dealer holdback is? Go here.
I used this the last couple of times to my advantage, and got my Honda's for a good price. Good luck.
