eclipse question

my friend wants to get an eclipse (97-99 model) and i told her i would help her pick it out for her. she wants one with leather seating, automatic, rainbow spoiler, black or silver exterior. her price range is $3000-$7000. what would be the best model to get? i told her it would be almost impossible to find a GSX or GST in auto for that price so i suggested a GS, but im not sure if u can get it with leather or not. shes also pretty much dead set on that car as well. she doesnt want a 1st or 3rd generation either. input please.

Does she want to do anything to it, or does she care about cars? If she is into cars tell her to get the GS and put parts on it kits for the car are cheap. If she doesn't care about cars and just wants to have a "cute" car and won't be wreckless with a turbo, get the GSX. but if she doesn't care about how fast she wants to go, Back to the GS. I'd have my friend get the GS and I'd fix it up. If she couldn't drive (I know girls that can't drive is unheard of) and didn't care, I'd also get the GS, but if she wanted a decent car and was a good driver, GSX. Thats just what I'd do.

she really doesnt want to be hardcore into racing, but she said she wanted to fix it up a little bit (rims, intake, etc) and i told her i help her with that. i suggested the GS myself, but one of the main things she wants is leather...in which case i have no idea if they put it in the GS model or not. i also dont think she could handle a GSX or GST myself, considering shes driving a 95 pathfinder v6 and has trouble controlling that. and yes, i think most of it is the "cute" factor.

Look for a 95-96. Not a whole lot of difference in them from the 97-99. A friend of mine had a 95 GST with leather and all 6 months ago for $7600. Look around.

if she wants a 2G DSM, get the newest, lowest mile one you can find. they tend to fall apart from the inside out after a while.

yeah the trannies on the dsm cars arent that great but to me they look great and if you get a GSX or GS-T you will fall in love. Its the best bang for the buck.

prototype is on a distinguished road
the year eclipse that she is looking for is a good car if its not a gsx or a gs-t. the turbo models for 96-99 were made in the new plant. altho the motor from the 1st ad 2nd gen is a 4g63 the design is different. the turbo models from this plant suffer from crank walk anywhere after hitting 50K miles. ive seen it too many times. people spend all this money working the top of the motor and getting bigger turbos and such and dont even worry about the crank. tell her to go for a GS its a way better car IMO. If she was gonna be into hardore racing id say get a GSX 5speed and the 1st thing you do is put a knife edge crank in there....hope that helps if u have n e more technical questions on that car pm me i used to have 1 and i worked on them all the time

Heh, u're friend sounds like my gf.
"How come the higher % the lighter the tint?"
Cuz the % is how much light is allowed to pass.
"Oh i thought it was how much black stuff that was on the windows".

i'm sure 03eclipse could shed more light on this thread.

She's not really into cars, she just wants a cute little car for getting around in is what it sounds like. In your opinion she is iffy (not really a word but you get my drift) with the power of a turbo. It sounds like a GS would be good for her, plus lower insureance, It should still be insureance for a "sports car" but it will be less then with a turbo. and she can make it look the same as any model of eclipse. I would say tell her to go with the GS.

I'm kind of interested in what she gets now, let us know or me atleast

"gettin a 97 GS-T myself right now, I had a 00 SI was really quick and nice..I ran high 13's all motor so Im hopin this GST will give me some fun also with an upgraded turbo...I used to have a 1st gen GSX that thing hauled *** but gave too much problems...umm I know the 95-96 Eclipses had crank walk so stay away from those, and 97 only few reported but 98-99 were all clear of problems besides ECU stuff....but its almost impossible like someone said earlier to find a good Eclipse for 3-7K with low miles...ull prob end up with like 95 eclipse RS or GS with like 80K+
