Body Double... '03 Accent vs 03 Civic coupes

Notice how much of the rear is copied by the Accent:
1. Tail-lights from the inside
2. Horizontal crease line from the trunk
3. License plate area
4. Rear bumper
Imitation is the sincere form of flattery.

actually if u wanna talk about copying the civic coupe looks alot more like the ford focus from the rear and the focus was out first. all cars take designs from other cars that just how it worx.
I sure wish my car was newer

Of course car styles go in trends (350Z, G35, etc) but I think hyundai is a little worse. Most car companies follows the trend. Just like clothes, they will look similar for the most part. But hyundai has just plain stolen designs. There have been times that (from large distances) I've thought hyundais were much more expensive cars. But when I got close... they were just hyundais with bitten style.

Ok, first of all, a brand new design for a new generation takes years to develop. How much earlier did the Focus come out before the 7th gen Civic? Not that long if I'm not mistaken. Do you think that Honda engineers who were nearing the end of designing the 7th gen, saw the Focus and then said : "HELL yeah, that Ford Focus looks hella TYTE!! Let's trash our design and copy that Ford biatch !!"

Yep. Ford copied the Civic. However, I would think that Ford's hatch IMO looks better than Honda's new hatch. The new Si looks so ugly, I wouldn't even want it in the Honda line.
And speaking of the hatches... is it the same story for both of those models?

i agree, plus, if they do copy, i don't think they are copying from ford, i am sure everyone is copying german cars
Auto Industry follow a trend, a trend often set by a car, a company, technology, or even government.
Almost all cars since late 80s followed FORD TAURUS's basic design principles, but no one accused of others of plagiarism.
As for Accent vs Civic coupe argument, angle of A pillars are different, C Pillars dont look anything like each other, Accent's taillight is more similar to Toyota Camry than Civic, and etc etc.

Watewate: You are looking for too much differences. As I stated in the original e-mail, the cars have similar rear ends, not 3/4 rear views that would include the C-pillars and even complete taillights. There are plenty of lines on that rear end to spot similarities with the Civic coupe. Well, at least in my eyes.
even cars that actually look alike to many eyes, TSX and Mazda 6, when you study their lines, you can clearly see difference in design philosophy of each company.

As for the 350Z, G35 comment.. they are't copycats..they are the same damn car. One just has a more Posh interior and softer suspension.
Look at the Camry, Accord and SOnata from 91-94. All looked almost ideantical from the rear. had very similar sillhouets.. It's all marketting. It's trends...all companies follow these trends...they want the cars to be competitive and marketted towards a certain crown and that crowd wants cars to look how they do...

It's too bad the civic coupe looks like a focus. This is one of the many reasons I ended up with a sedan.
Geez, I hate how the designs all begin to run into eachother like this. Have you noticed that some of Kia's lineups look like they were leftovers from old models of other companies? One of their cars looks like an older generation (4th or 5th) civic. The Suv they have looks like the older generation Toyota rav4.
And their vans look similar to an older type van of nissan or some other company.
