HOT!!! - 160hp Civic EX Coupe FP
I just got the new Road&Track, it has a blurb on the new civic coupe ex, it's a sport model "FP" or Factory Performance.
It's a kit, price is about $4500 for everything, 160hp engine, suspension, 16" wheels, wing, and body kit.
They really liked the ride and drive, and said it's a lot better out on the racetrack too.
I gotta test drive this and see what parts I can get for mine (suspension!)....or trade in.

Honda is doing 3 different packages, civic, rsx, and accord coupe.
Road&Track said the civic felt completely different...in a good way.
This sounded like a legit civic coupe si.
Don't give up hope yet!

Civic EX Coupe w/factory performance package Vs. Si hatch.
EX with add-ons: $16.5k+$4.5k < Civic Si: $16k-$19k
Even if it came with the engine, the Si would be the better value. Plus a factory performance package that's $4,500 is the price of the first one. You're telling us that Honda will give you this package with a brand NEW engine for $4,500? I'll be the first one to call B.S.
If they claimed that the engine # for HP is 160, it must be the Si. That's the only way it could make senes. Are you sure you didn't read too fast?

As everyone already said, the FP package is just a bunch of suspension mods and some badges. No serious engine mods. If they're planning to make a 160hp performance coupe then I'de be a happy puppy.
I wonder how much Honda paid him to say that just to sell a few more Civics.
Even if Honda put the K20A3 in there, I wouldn't take it (pricewise, thank you) although it would be nice to see them sell a sportier Civic coupe. In fact, I'd rather have a FP coupe with the K-series engine than the Si hatchfack. This almost defeats the purpose of having an Si... good. Wonder what the curb weight would be in the car... minus the fackory kit.

Wow! WTF? So they stuffed a K series in the Civic for the FP package? I need to see this for myself.

I had wished for the longest time that they'de do this. Go Honda!
So what engine do they use? Is it really the K-series or what? Damn I wish they had this done to the 01 civics. Now I would pay 4,500 more for a new engine and suspension and kit and rims. Sounds like a good deal if they put an a different engine. So since its lowered does it ride bouncy or what?

And like Grey said, I'd have to see it for myself however anyone right at this moment could call the dealer and simply ask for themselves. My dealer is closed now. If they say yes, you better have a digital camera and get the entire car with the hood up, K20A3 engine viewable.

This is definitely good for Honda.. they should have done this from the start with the EX models. Idiots. And Si's need more than 160HP (SVT Focus, Sentra SE-R, and Matrix XRS all are quicker).
But as good as it is, $4500 is outrageous. Sorry, but that nearly pushes it to RSX-S territory. The keyword for Civics are "VALUE"... not niche market. $2500 price premium should be tops.. then I would say it's more reasonable.

nah, if they did put a k20a3 [I think it would still be D17.. or 18.. whatever they did to the engine
], then it will only encourage more people to stuff K20a or k20a2... with parts now available to make it a seamless conversion.

er.
twenty bucks the Magazine screwed up.
no way Honda went and stuff a 160 hp engine in... the price for the FP suspension upgrade is 4,000-4,500
its stupid to do that cuz they're going to against themselves in the market... and the 02+ Si is already a bad seller as it is... no need for more competition...

160hp isn't what it used to be from a few years ago. When you have family sedans pushing 200hp and 240hp nowadays, who in their right minds can claim that 160hp + stiffer suspension + bodykit = a sports car?
I sure wish my car was newer

I saw the article a few days ago, at first, I was all excited. But I don't think they're going to put 160hp into the coupe. I believe it was just a type-o. Because if you read all the extras, it doesn't tell what they did to the engine to make it have more hp. But it does talk about the extra suspension parts. They DO praise its handling compared to the regular Civic, but they praise its HANDLING. NOT acceleration. I'd be its just a mistake.
yah, I saw that article too. However, I have seen other reviews and ads, and I am pretty sure that the Fp package is just suspension, rims and tires…no engine stuff.
