what is a crate motor?
what is the difference between a short block and a long block? what does one have that the other doesn't?
also, what is a hemi motor? i have read it's OHV V8 but why is it called hemi? more detail would be appreciated on this question especially
thx guys for any replies

A crate motor can be any motor that typically comes pre-assembled in a box or crate.
A long block is an engine that comes with extra parts like the cylinder heads, oil pan, water pump etc. Basically everything except intake, exhaust manifold(s) and some other external parts. A short block is mainly just internals like the lower half(crank, pistons, rods, etc) and a cam. The rest you have to swap over from another engine or buy new.
A hemi in its basic form, can be just about any engine that has its sparkplug at the very top of the cylinder head.
