2003 330ci or 2003 maxima
Hey, I am in the process of buying a new car. From civic to a 2003 maxima se 6spd or 2003 330ci 5spd. I've been a maxima fan for a while now, and I love the BMW's. So, which do you think will be better for all around performance and hows the ride in the 330? so..330ci or maxima. Also, is the m package for the 330ci worth it? or should I find some thing that looks like the m3 front, because the m package is kind of roundish.
btw,
2003 maxima - $38,000 cdn
2003 330ci - $48,700 cdn
I just got back from test driving the 330, well, 10min ago. This car is amazing, its suspension kicks @$$, very, very, very little body roll, it had a better throttle responce then the max does, the rwd is a big advantage, even in snow it handles good because of its VDC or whatever its called. The interior was excellent, the back seats roomy, it was fast, even though we test drove an auto (they didnt have any 5spd at the time). So, I can imagine how fun it will be too drive with the 5spd. Im think that I will go for the bimmer, I test drove the maxima like 4 times and took the bimmer once, and now Im in love with this bimmer. And for other reasons, look down in the post.
Also, the 330ci isnt the lowest they 325 is I think. The package I will get is the M package for it. And I won't be like "oh I drive a bimmer, Im the greatest, blah blah blah blah blah". BTw, again, they are going to have AC stuff there and IN their showroom. And this is canada! So much better then the other dealerships.
Oh and, the day before, when they just opened (new BMW gallery) a friend and I walk in to the showroom, and Im like "yeah, they're not going to take us seriously". Then this young guy (around mid 30's) comes too us and asks us what we want. Im like whoa, thats new. Then we talk for a bit we get the numbers and stuff. Then, this is what really blew my pants off. He asked us if we wanted a tour of their place (this is a new dealership, just opened 2 days ago). He showed us the basement with 167 stalls, heated floors, washbays, etc. He told us that when someone brings in their bimmer, that they detail it, wash it, wax it (sometimes) and store it there until you pick it up. Now thats what I call good service. And at the end he showed us the mini's and when you pick up your new bimmer the room thats all silent and the salesman shows you your new car with all the features.

Wow, a dealership that does all that... that is pretty flippin cool. I'd almost get the 330 (from those choices) just because of the service. And the 330 just has a persona about it that looks great. The Maxima... it's nice and all but when given the choice of either a BMW or a Nissan you'll be sure as hell that I'll choose the BMW.
Tell me what you don't like about yourself....

Get the 330 and drive it like you stole it. I would, but I would probably really have to steal it to drive it.

BMW 330i is without a doubt the better car... but $10,000 better? Oh wait--plus Canadian taxes.. 15%... so $11,500 better? Oh wait--$60 oil changes... and optional this, optional that...
Okay, I don't know if the bimmer is that much better.
Like I said, get a Infinity G35. You will spank the bimmer and still have some money left in the bank for a nice set of 18" BBS rims......

Don't confuse what a BMW is--it's a luxery brand. With a major juice in sportiness. Despite it's efficient 3.0L DOHC engine, it's still no match for the Ford's 4.6L V8 brawn.
Different cars? Yes... but let's not daydream.

Yah... rule out the Maxima... you aren't even playing in the same ballpark. Rethink the G35. The Maxima is pretty outdated despite having one of the best engines on the market... and it really pushes the edge of FWD capability. Theres really a lot of torque steer, the rear suspension is still a beam (it's not independent) and despite being very luxurious and quick, it isn't really sporty. The shifter sucks (I test drove it) its a long rubbery throw, but damn does it haul in a straight line, but it has quite a bit of roll in the corners, even with the sport suspension.
Go look at the G35, it isn't more than $3000 US over a Maxima SE, and all the magazines have been raving about it. And with the BMW... well, it's got a reputation for a reason.

Im in alberta so tax is only 7%
. No g35, its also up too my dad, because he's paying half of it. Also, the BMW is a pimp factor, and I really like it. Here's a pic of what it will be,

G35 is definately one sweet looking car. I don't care for the interior though. I love the exterior of the 330 and you can't mess with the interior of those bad boys imo. Best interior in any car imo. I figure I spend more time in the car than out...
BMW would be my choice even though the G35 has supposedly one-upped it....
Definately throw the nissan out as it's not in the same ballpark. Also, you sure do have a big price range. Are you sure it's that you can afford the maxima but will really be stretching for the bimmer. Imo, anyone going from a civic to what you are looking at just got a HUGE salary increase or has decided to have a super-nice car and nothing else...to each his own.

if you want to compare the maxima to a bimmer in price then the cheapest i think is the 323i...its about 35 grand i think....but you might get a very good discount on the maxima if you wait till summer or close to the end of the year since the generation will change (let me know if i'm wrong)...

i'd take the 330Ci over the maxima, if i could afford it
but you're comparing two different cars, 330Ci should be compared to the IS300 or A4, or more upscale japanese cars, like the TL/CL or G35. personally, for the price, i would want the G35 coupe, 280HP, rear wheel drive, 6 speed manual, under $35k, sounds yummy

I´d go with the BMW. The maxima is more a family sport sedan, though it is also a great car.
The new Maxima looks so much like the Altima that it even makes you consider just getting the V-6 Altima.
I have been raced by both a v-6 and a 4 cyl Altima, and I ate their dust. The v6 is probably as fast as the BMW in a straight line, and the 4 cyl is actually very good also at moving the heavy car.

nice choice on the ACS gear. personnally im a Hamann fan myself, as far as wheels go (PG2's) but ACS makes some good stuff too. also think about Dinan. check out www.dtmpower.net for tuning ideas/help
