Whats our cars biggest competition?
I've been checking this site everayday for almost 5 months and now i finally became a member. I've heard a lot of people saying that our cars are slow. I will be getting my 1st car this summer. Can someone please tell me what imports/domestics our cars can beat with ease. Also what's our biggest competition?

there aren't many cars we can beat with ease, most will require a bit of skill
competition in the price range includes
ford focus
toyota corolla
chevy(toyota) cavalier
mazda 3
hyundai tiburon
v6 mustang
etc...i am sure other members will provide you with other things
watch out for 5 speed geo metros...

pretty much the civic is one of the slowest cars in it's class, Civic isn't known for speed, it's known for it's excellent fuel economy and practicallity, if your looking to beat other cars right from the lot, stay away from the civic, especially with these 7th gens, the aftermarket isn't very big for them right now and it's hard to find good parts to make them really fast, the 4th 5th and 6th generation civics are a different story, aftermarket goodies are there for the picking for these cars. Right now the best things for th 7th gen seem to be a K20 swap (RSX TYPE S engine swap) and a custom built turbo, all will cost alot.

what about 3rd gen (the latest model) 4 cyl. eclipse? i know the V6 models are pretty quick but i'm not sure aobut the 4 cyl.
you can beat other stock civics with big chrome rims and definatly the V6 mustangs, integra gs? (if the civic is lightly modded), and the honda oddesy.

Oddessy run 14's
I've seen an oddesey run 16.1 in the 1/4 mile, there pretty quick for that type of vehicle but not that quick. They are faster then the civics though ,
A civic will have to have at least I/H/E to be compared with any 3rd generation integra. Stock Hp for the civic 127, integra base model 142, you'll need at least 15 HP to compete, so I/h/e, generally, will be enough to get there.
please disregard the comments about beating a v6 mustang...its not gonna happen. Especially if your car is stock, and the comment about the v6 camaro..im just going to assume that was a joke.

from a manufacturer's standpoint, our biggest competiton:
toyota corolla
nissan sentra
mazda protege
volkswagen jetta (lower trim levels)
ford focus
chevy cavalier
pontiac sunfire
i honestly don't think a stock civic can consistently beat a v6 camaro or mustang. they're a bit more "sports oriented", and would compete with something along the lines of a 6th gen SI in terms of performance. add a 50 shot to our cars, though, and i'm sure we could take them. as for the 4th gen non-vtec integra, the numbers are too close to tell IMO, so it'd be mostly driver. out of that list above i think the "safest" choices would be the civic and the corolla, and maybe the protege. the jettas are fairly nice cars, but they have a history of problems. if you're going for strictly performance, i'd suggest the mazda protege, because it definitely has a lot of aftermarket support, including support from Mazda itself, something honda doesn't really have.

if we did this we'd be doing pretty well as far as racing sub 20K cars go......I/H/E, pulley, cam, intake manifold, and mabybe a port job. and of cousre your gonna need the N2O.

just cuz its a bigger cylinder doesn't mean its faster.
I think lots of u guys are throwing in just the speed factor.. from a general buyer perspective, some of the list are better.
then again I guess he could have been more specific in his question..
our car falls in the compact economy/family sedan/coupe category.. it will NOT be listed under sporty, sports, or sport coupe, or anything like that..
just go to any autosite and check for cars under those categories with the appropriate price.

Ford Focus Sedans are no challenge.. with I/H/E the fastest I've seen one run was a mid 17...that's with the zetec engine.
The Z3's runa tad slower than you EX coupe guys...
the Toyota Corolla 5 speeds run mid-low 16's near sea level..about the same as the EX 4 doors can do..
the Mazda Protoge sedans run low 16's/high 15's... a touch faster than the EX coupe's.
The protoge 5's run low 16's stock..same as ex's..but have much better stock suspension.
Integra GS and RS's are a tad quicker than EX coupe's but I/H/E evens it up real fast...
new Accord 4cyl manuals are an even match for the civics.
older model GM anything with a 305 auto is fair game unless it's modified.
almost all mini pickups..(unmodded)
