this topic has been beaten to f.ucking death, buried into the f.ucking grave and a FREAK digged it up to live again.

anyways, i will cut it short and make it easy for you, alot of people in the site use 87 regular unleaded octane. nothing higher is needed to run our engines as instructed in the owners manual. if you ever decides to go higher, its all a matter of personal preference.
i always use EXXON 87 regular unleaded, or if i cant see any i use its sister company MOBILE. i dont use any other gas in my car because i always wanted to be consistent. the only way i can put any other gas in my car is when im really desperate, then i use other gas. by the way for like previous weeks ive started using 89 plus unleaded. not much of a difference but sall good.
put it this way, i just realized that there is a mere 10 cents difference from regular to plus. so if you use like 10 gallons or more, you have only saved like 1 buck. extra expense of 1-3 dollars per 2 weeks gasoline for my car will not make me broke. same logic applies to premium. but i recently put like a full tank of 93 premium unleaded to my car and i noticed a slight difference on picking up the speed. for some reason, the car seemed to picked up speed slower in premium octane compared when i used the regular. so that was weird, i wouldnt put any more than 87 if i were you.
about the additives stuff, i also was curious about that. so does anyone use additives like STP to their car? btw that teriyaki additive sounds cool

87 octane. Every so often I'll throw some injector cleaner in there, and just before a road trip, if I plan ahead well enough, I'll through in some of that octane boost - it's like $1.25 or something, and it always gives me a huge boost to the mileage. It's weird, like almost an extra hundred miles to the tank ...

this topic has been beaten to death. Civics are designed to use 87 and that's what you should use

87 Chevron (w/ Techron)

I might start using 89 or 91 because i hear the "knocking" or "pinging" noise from my engine with 87. Doesn't happen when i use 89 or 91 octane from Chevron.

You'll need higher octane with...

Advanced timing or Turbocharger or Nitrous or Supercharger or increased compression. Otherwise you're not going to see a benefit. Basically you'll want more octane to prevent detonation. If your engine knocks then you have detonation. Increase the octane or use less aggressive timing. Um, yeah...

Is the detonation caused by low quality gas or what? I run Chevron 87 every time and the knocking is still there...
This didn't happen with 76 or Shell.

Hmm... Maybe. If the octane isn't really as advertised. Some people say they get better gas mileage with certain brands. I haven't noticed anything myself...

I'm stuck with my Chevron card. I'll just use 89 from now on and see if the knocking truly goes away.
