Top Speed...

There's a German webpage that shops the Top 100 maximum speeds, which are mostly pictures taken from the interiors of BMWs, Porsches, and Mercedes-Benz's.

topten

While you're looking around, check out the 90th spot from the "topten car" section. I had the opportunity to drive 181 km/h (111.7 mph) on the 401 (near London), but didn't pursue the 200 mark because I had a funny feeling the police would be waiting for me at the other end. My '02 Civic Si was doing roughly 5,500 rpm and had a little more than 1,500 rpm before fuel cut off. My guess is that she'll do about 205 km/h (126.5 mph) rev limited. But we all know the consequences of driving twice the speed limit? I thought so.

You can submitt your own top-speeds to the e-mail at the bottom of the page (faster@e39.de). Some of them are fake, which were categorized in the "topten outtake" section.

Cheers,

you could always plead temporary insanity... it would be very believable... since going 200 on the 401 either in traffic (or if you did it at night in the dark) REALLY IS INSANE

(thats not to say i havent tried it )

Well, that would completely jeopardize my whole career. I rely on my Civic as means of transportation to work. No Civic = no license = no work = no money = no life. Quite honestly, I think North America needs super highways that have speeds limits greater than the posted 100 km/h. Problem is, the general driving public isn't educated enough to know what to do at those speeds. Let alone, know how to react when you have a 911 Carerra closing at you with a relative speed of 150 km/h (250 kph Porsche - 100 kph you = 150). But that's another conversation all together.

Cheers,

How many miles should we have before we really get on them? The guy at the dealership told me about 600 miles and thats all I need. I push it pretty hard once and a while, no problems but is what I'm doing bad?

Breakin Period. It's a term that comes and goes. From various sources I hear that break-in period is not required due to the small tolerances when building engines. I tried to take it easy on all my new cars, but the tempation to red-line it always existed in the pre-1000 km period. In the end, I'd like to ask a Honda powertrain engineer that question than rely on a sales or even a service representative. Unfortunately, I have no contacts in that department. Fortunately, Honda has a 5-year powertrain warranty, which lies beyond the time I'm going to keep my '02 Civic.

120 mph = 194.4 km/h. Very nice... wished you had the flash on or a steadier hand. Oh well...
