Wondering... Improvements... 8th Generation Civic
Just was thinking to myself what kind of improvements Honda will make in designing the 8th gen Civic. I wonder if it will look like a Pacer (fishbowl -- then I can put my fish in it). lol It will be interesting to see how they design it, whether they keep it conservative or take more of a radical approach like Nissan for the sport's enthusiast. Hmmmmmmmm... <Snapping out of a daydream.> BTW, the 7th gen still rocks!

A definite improvement would be to do something with the engine, give us a bit more so we can keep up with some of the newer cars comming on the market. I think most will agree with me on this one .....

Def. some dam'd power.........although....they never will...it's a civic.......
coupe SI would be nice......
They'll prob. just change the tail and headlights on our body style.....then call it good.

I say change out the suspension to independent double wishbone rather then Macpherson Struts, new hub caps. redesigned c**kpit, new designed lights (front and rear), add about 10 more HP. Then I think alot more people will be happy. One more thing, upgrade the tires a little too.

140-150 HP (or maybe a B-series (nothing wrong with having more power than the other econoboxes).... especially if the Si gets bumped up to 200 HP)
16" Rims (maybe just on the EX, with LX,DX getting 15" alloys, but ditch the steelies) with optional 17's
Seats with more padding (still firm, but thicker)
Better interior (leave the ergonomics, just use softer plastics)
4 Wheel Disc Brakes STANDARD
I do like the fact that all the options are individual (as opposed to packages), so leave that the way it is.
A little more head clearance in the coupe back seat (anyone over 5'10" bangs their head on the glass)
Maybe 6 gears??? (Doubtful) Although a shorter throw and a slightly stiffer clutch would do the trick.

I think Honda takes pride in the 32/33 mpg the EX can get in the city. I think they will not give that up. I have a feeling Honda is so smart they will again find a way to increase HP/torque and still get the same amout of gas mileage. oh yeah, and give the damn thing four whell disc brakes please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I truely love my 7th gen civic, but I think they should go back to the old style 2000 Coupe design. A bigger engine bay makes for funner modding. Throw a more powerful 2.0L DOHC engine on the EX, all disc brakes, spice up the interior a bit. Give it a smaller steering wheel. I say change the tailights but keep the headlights. I agree with having a double wishbone suspension and optional 17s to go along with it. Basically, give the car the ICEBERG effect. It'll look like a normal 127hp Civic, but there's more going on underneath the hood than you think.
Basically yeah what BoilerMaker and Booha said..... they should upgrade the EX to a DOHC with 160HP and the Si up to 200HP and include 4-wheel disc brakes.... after all, you can still get good mileage with DOHC. Ya just get performance along with it, too.

Also, honda is a conservative company. I see them staying that way.

Not only more power, but a bigger engine bay. (IE: bigger engine=bigger engine bay)
But we just dont have any room to work in there! And I think that was a big problem with swaps/turbo/supercharger issues.
Cuz i want my supercharger

Although many of us 7thgencivic.com members want power, I think majority of the Civic owners in the world are not wanting it.
Most buyers out there bought the Civic because it's reliable, good mpg, good resale value, looks great for the price.
Most of these buyers won't know or care about power.
One thing I think they can improve on is road noise / engine noise. Too loud in the car.

Need to bring back the front double wishbone suspension and improve the vague steering response. Also, need to offer tire and wheel upgrades, preferably 16s and wider tires (205s) than our current skinny ones. Forget the plastic hubbies, too.

Yeah, I thought about that too, so I was thinking that the RSX-S should go up to about 230HP and the Type R up to about 250HP.. that would be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet....
I think the engine doesn't so much need to be bigger or faster, it would be nice if it reacted a little better to mods tho. They should also shorten up the *** end of the coupes. My car got back!!!

more difference looks between Coupe and Sedan, like they did with the new Accord.
make coupe a lot more aggressive, lengthen the front a bit, and make the whole car look low.
have an engine that is easy to mod
have autostick

I would like to see the Civic with normal speaker hole cut-outs so that it is not a biotch to put speakers in. Also, some better interior panels and seat covers.

But there is nothing that says the Si can't go to 180 HP with the same engine and a few factory tweaks (Like Variable Timing on BOTH cams)... Which would certainly open the door for a 150 HP Civic, and the RSX-S can be left at 200.... Although a DC5-R would really hit the spot.

Who cares about HP...more low end torque!!!..Upgrade the bore slightly and change the intake manifold design(<---biggest reason our cars don't react well to mods)... Better quality interior.
They have 16's and 205's as an option via the Factory performance package...
They'll always have steelies to keep the costs down.
The suspension won't change because it keeps the size and weight of the car down a little. and it's cheaper. to do

1. 4-wheel disc brakes
2. go back to the 4-wheel independent suspension
3. more power definitely would be nice, but not necessary (just make it easier to do swaps)
