Hey man, I'm learnin'...

So ok, it COULD be that he's running low 14's cuz of the weight difference, and well there could be other factors.. But he did say he was running a 14.4 with just the Apexi N1 muffler replica? ... that just seemed a little off to me.

14.4 sounds right.

lets see... limited slip differential... less weight... better stock rubbers.

yeah. 14.4 with a cat back (+1-3 whp?) sounds about right with the right driver.

the Type R should be faster than a Type S.

's okay. live and learn.

why is everything with you guys power to weight..this only counts for the cars full stop to full speed performance..what's in the middle and is far more of a factor is GEAR RATIO'S!!!!!....when balanced with the vehicle's weight, and taking cosideration of shifting times...

There'sa few 10 second N/A integras running B18's out there... they do it primarily with matching the vehicles weight to engine power to gears..they all run 5 speed trannies with Very short ratios and all are pretty closely rev limited to their trap speed so as to keep as much power as possible to the wheels at all times.

take a 600hp,600ft.lb torque engine with a 3.00 final drive. take a 300hp, 300ft.lb engine and give it 6.00 final drive. Torque at the wheels for both will be the same..the difference would be in gear ratio's only the 600HP car would go twice as fast before he had to shift. which takes alot of time in the 1/4 mile. the 600HP car will be a hair faster because of 1 less shift...

Small engine, lower torque cars need much closer gear ratio's than a high torque car. Most pro-stock Drag cars run 3 speed trannies. because the engine through long gear ratio's still produces a ton of torque at the ground.

Most turbo imports setup for pure drag racing have a pretty wide open first gear because they launch at 6000rpms, and the engine revs to say 9000. in those 3000rpms the car will go say an extra 25MPH..then gear 2 is tighter, gear 3 is even tighter, 4 is even tighter..all to keep maximum boost..which explains the lightning acceleration off the line and midtrack..but relatively slow trap speed in comparison to big block cars which run the same E.T's..

a Local guy with a CRXruns 12.93's at 93MPH....another guy run's low 14's at 110MPH.(gotta love torque )..at the end of the 1/4 the Crx is spinning in 5th at 7900RPMS.. the 14 second big block is only in 3rd gear at 5000 and has another gear to go..is he shortened his gear ratio's enough and got tires big enough to stick..he's be runnign 12's too but at much higher speed.

So dammit cut all yer power/weight crap....I have a 900HP car that weighs 4200lbs but I have 1-1 Gear ratio and only 1 gear...guess what....your car puts MUCH lesspower to the ground than a civic in first gear...

But, once you get moving you'll really really really outfly a civic like it's going in reverse..

Ever see those 4000HP trucks run on the salt flats at over 300MPH.. ever see them even attempt to accelerate off the line... NO..they get puched by another vehcile right up to about 100MPH because they really can;t even get offs line because of gearing..

GEARS..it's all about matching the gears to your cars weight and powerband!!!!! not Peak power numbers to curb weight!!!!

All that being said.you guys can all have 13 second 1/4 mile cars running stock engines..if you can shft fast enough.. but on the highway you'd be going 55mph in 5th at like 4500RPMS and top speed would be about 85MPH....

Okay let me guess this right...

Everyone these days wants a car that's streetable..goes 140+MPH does a 13 second quarter mile, handles like a race car and has a full body kit and sound system..and a 4cylinder engine...

Hmmmmmmm

well mohawk mentioned something very important that most people dont recognize... you all listen to him now okay??

I didn't mention that though cuz the Type R and the Type S has same gear ratios. heh.

I mentoined the difference I could think of though, LSD, curb weight, and rubber.

another thing to recognize is traction... if u dont have traction, you're not going anywhere... hence I think the Type R is faster simply because of its LSD and its sportier tires that helps a better launch and better 60 ft.

oh yeah.

to support mohawk, the only reasons why our civics can run an okay/average quarter mile (by okay I mean 16 sec) for a 127 hp car is due to the gearings.
