Rep Power: 0 EX vs LX
I'm sure this has come up in the past, but I'm just curious...
I know EX is "supposed" to be quicker, with 127HP rated engine, instead of LX's 115HP. It also has shorter gearing (1st & 5th). But I read on here a few times that LX was actually quicker. And recently I was just flipping though some car magazines, and found this:
MotorTrend, December 2002
Road Test Results
Civic EX/'01
0-60mph: 9.0s
1/4mile: 16.5s@82.7mph
Civic LX/'02
0-60mph: 8.3s
1/4mile: 16.4s@84.3mph
I don't go by everything I read on the web, or everything I read on the magazines. But this point has kept coming up and up again, and I just want to get to the bottom of it. This magazine isn't apparently the 1st one to say that LX is quicker.
What gives? Does anybody have a dyno-sheet for both cars? I'm curious about the actual powerband... I know EX has a higher peak, but I know LX makes power earlier.

Rep Power: 0 i've driven both an 02 EX Coupe & an 02 LX Coupe, and the LX seemed a SMALL amount (very small) faster...my g/f and I raced on a few occasions when she had her LX Coupe, and she actually beat me like twice, albiet, not by a lot (hard to admit that, but she's a good driver when it comes down to it) We both have EX Coupe's now, and i've won both times we've raced...

Rep Power: 345 how do you know LX makes power earlier?
only dynos I can think of are the weird ones from AEM...
different track, different condition, different driver. thats how I see it.
if a DX does a good time, I wouldn't be surprise. Its a good ~200 lbs lighter... the LX is only about 100lbs lighter...

Rep Power: 345 yeah.. I would have to say all these cars are just driver factor.. they're all too slow to be of any difference really.
sometimes I wonder was it worth the money for the ex...
only thing I like is the moonroof, and its nice that I have bigger wheels... but er... oh yeah, the stock rear sway... that was nice...
what else? what else!??! for two extra grand, they really should have squeeze a pony or two more outta this engine. I'm sure they could.
or just rate it higher like the guys at Hyundai did...

Rep Power: 0 ok now it may be faster than the ex, but 8.3 is just plain wrong. that is .7 faster from just 0-60... generally that time is for a civic with extras on it... like the new SCC with the type r civic beating the rsx-s by a LOT with the same engine.

Rep Power: 0 Hey wassup i have an Lx and i've raced one of my hommie who has an ex...we went best out of 3 and i came out on top..each time i beat him..it wasnt by much...im thinking it might have to do with the weight difference between the Lx and the Ex and possibly (correct me if im wrong) the fact that the Ex vtec has a 3 stage instead of the vtec kickin in all at the same time (thas wut i have been told)

Rep Power: 0 I have seen mags saying the civic does 0-60 in 7.9secs. Too many times have been published that are all over the place. I don't think any conclusions can be drawn.
Which car is faster only matters in a world where every possible variable is held constant. In our cars, between models, corollas, focii, the DRIVER is going to win the race.

Rep Power: 0 hmm i can't believe the difference between the LX and the EX is so significant! the EX has vtec AND the extra hourse! biG WOW! (scarcasm) some say that the LX reponds quicker than the EX, however in the long run, EX is faster. so thefore if we were to assemble an experiment to see if the EX is faster than the LX, in the long run (long than a quarter mile), would the EX pull out first? personally, i think its the driver that makes the difference.

Rep Power: 0 Haha.. gotta love the politically correct answer.. "a driver's race".. sure sure, you can say that about a lot of cars. But seriously--say the same damn drivers--which is quicker?
I'm very curious.. everyone has their own opinion, but you know this isn't an opinion issue.
I think I will say that EX is quicker in the long run, once in the highway speeds though... I'll buy that! But off the line, to 60mph?

Rep Power: 0 2001 civic LX has like 14 inch rims compared to like 15 inch on EX
civic LX has no moonroof which weights 100 pounds less than the EX
ofcourse civic LX is going to be faster! there's no question to it.

Rep Power: 0 dont know about you guys but I bought my ex because of ABS and side airbags, make insurance lower anyone ever think of that??? plus painted EVERYTHING, no fugly black mirrors and door handles, plus I dont know bout you but I ran 16.2 in the quarter at capitol raceway in MD. that was WITH rims, and 2 12's and two amps(like the amps matter), with intake and muffler, I believe that was injen cold air too. now show me an lx with a quarter with less than 16.2 I also have raced 99-00 si's on the highway (495) and from the line they will smoke me but on the highway they only pull a quarter panel ahead. just my 02 cents

Did you realize that the B16A2 equiped EK Si reaches its best accelerative performance from 3rd gear on up?
Hey, I parked next to a Ferrari the other day, I was ahead by a bumper.

You know what shows "a weak self confidence" (sound familiar)?
LIEING.
Stop making the baby Jesus cry.
And don’t flatter your self. You post 2 things in the same forum and suddenly anyone who replies to both threads are "stalking" you.

Rep Power: 0 Same thing with me... my friend's LX auto sedan just plain takes off faster than my EX coupe auto. But once we reach 70MPH, i pull like mad on him (consistently every time) I think the VTEC has an advantage at higher speeds

Rep Power: 0 I think that every owner of LX here are saying that LX are faster and every owner of ex are saying ex are faster.
there is no member of this board that did a race and they both agreed of who won and how lost and why?
and what do you consider a race? A race between two light? from 0 to 40 MPH? a quarter mile?
