How Do You Win An Automatic Transmission Race?
My friend has a Civic EX, I have a Civic EX, both automatic... nothing to compete over.. I mean, same specs, same weight almost...
Anyways... so is there anything else I can do other than flooring the gas peddle right when the light turns green?
Won't do any engine mods.. juss driving wise, anything I can do?

hope that you got the stronger car. and hope that it's a lot stronger (fluke) .
or you could, take out as much weight as possible as already mentioned. aside from modding your car that's about all you can do. Are you running your stock wheels? how about your friend?

yep, shoulda put a warning on that brake torqueing. my bad.
some people put their car in D3 for first gear, then switch it to D2 for second and switch it to D3 for third and D4 for 4th.
i dont know if it really helps, but you would be able to red line higher at 2nd and 3rd gear (I THINK) but i've never done it.

I have an auto, just for kicks i ran it and timed it, if you do the shifting thing you gain like a little under a second and thats about it, it would probably be more if you had some mods on it, but not too much more id bet.
And you will most likely fu*k up your tranny doing this, as you can always feel the car jerking around.
~~Put it into D3, rev it up while holding the brake, release when the light hits green, around 40-60 push it to D, and you can feel a tad bit of increase.~~

I heard don't floor it all the way, but ease into it. Then again, I have a 5 speed, and it does me just fine

I don't know anything about brake torqueing, but I've tried a few neutral drops and it's gotten some extra kick off the line. I don't know about revving to 6000 though, that'll f.uck up your tranny I'm pretty sure. But somewhere about 3000 or so, and the car will have a bit more ***** when you drop it into drive (or D3), and then just floor it. As soon as you're ready to go to second, ease off the pedal slightly and drop it into 2, same with D3, and than D again. Now, it's true I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to racing, but I have actually beaten a couple cars this way.
Or you could try brake torqueing, but that sounds just about as bad for your car. Good luck ..
Peace

A lot of you bag on automatic cars, when in fact the fastest 1/4 mile cars have, in fact, been automatics. Both are built for different purposes, manual for sporty driving and complete control, and automatic for ease and convenience, yet what is the difference in acceleration times for a Civic in manua and a Civic in Auto? Not much at all. Maybe a second IF THAT. Whats a second? Count in your head and find out. We all would like a little more speed in our puny 1.7Ls, we all share the same interests, so try not to bag on people who drive automatics.

Say you had a trap speed 1/4 mile of 85MPH
85/60/60 = .0236
.0236 * 5280 ft/mi = 125 ft. (maybe 7 car lengths)
