B18swap email
Hi Donald,
I have a complete kit from a 2000 Integra, only the motor & computer are 95
but in excellent condition. The kit
installed in your car would cost you $ 5,500.00.
Thanks
Rob

Subject: B18C1 info
I've emailed you guys before about building my D17A but that's
pointless..the heads are too small to ever allow adequate air flow..
So.. my cars a 2001..I can "legally" Swap in a B18C1 from a 2001 Model year
GSR a few folks overseas have done this allready.
All this would be done in the spring as I gotta save some benjamins.
Would you be able to find me a JDM or USDM B18C1 pulled from a 2001 GSR?.
and also provide a rough estimate on install cost and for a motor.. new
mounts would need to be fabricated and I'd imagine a ton of rewiring...for
Swaps in quebec your name keeps coming up as the best..and your brother in
law Eric is a buddy of mine.
Sorry for the long email..
Cheers
Donald

Oh man, this what I've been waiting for. $3000 dollars fits in my budget too. Too bad I live in California. Oh well, if they can do it once, then I'm sure someone else can do it again.
I read a post on this site about Hasport planning to start work on an 01 GSR swap into our 7th gens. Something that would actually allow me to get more power AND pass CA emissions!

if I do it it's only the spring..I work too much all winter and I need to save the $$. I'm gonna try to find a 2001 engine though just to make sure its 100% legal...
this may be a dumb question but why wouldnt you just rather have the k20a2? the only things i can see that would make you prefer the b18c1 is that it has a two stage intake manifold, a lower compression ratio, a higher redline(not by much: 8000rpm vs. the k20's 7900rpm), and of course the advantage of not having to switch to six-speed transmission. the k20a2 has higher displacement, 30 more hp, higher torque, and higher gear ratios. also the k20a2 is a square engine(with both bore and stroke being 86.0mm) while the b18c1 is under square(810.0mmx87.2mm). its my understanding that under square engines arent as likely to produce as much hp as over square engines(im not saying it can be done..just thats its not everyday you see it happen). in square engines(in comparison to under square) the edges of the valve are less obstructed by the cylinder wall. this,i think, is called "unshrouded" and helps breathing. the downsides of a larger bore are flame travel, burn time, and some emissions related questions. from what ive been told, a bigger bore is harder to ignite evenly, which means you may have some problems with a single-ignition setup. physically, the bigger span of the open bore should add less to the strength of a motor, too. a longer stroke motor seems to offer better emissions conditions than a big bore motor.
i think what im really trying to say is, it would be too damn hard for me to decide which engine id want to put in my civ..thats why im not gonna swap.

edit: damn
..reading over this **** makes me realize how truly bored i am..

how about the fact that it would take 2x the money to modify a K20 to make the same power as a B18C given the same mods?

Yeah complete swap to a K20 would run me $12k Cananadian.. I can drop in the B18C1 and port it, get Type-R Pistons cams and headers, and get Hondata Stage 3 ECU programming for the cost of an RSX type S swap
