actually the rev limiter is at about 8.....and a rev limiter is when the ecu kicks in an doesnt allow u to rev ne higher....just a safety feature so u dont blow yer engine.
edit: s2k library: rev limiter
i found this on rev limiter, so it sounds like it really can't help you if you would misshift into a lower gear
Technically, with a manual, the rev limiter doesn't limit you on a downshift. If you do a crazy downshift, and the car (hypothectically speaking, don't feel like doing numbers right now,) does 5k rpm if fifth, and you downshift into second, fuel, spark, or whatever, if the clutch is fully let go, physics will determine what rpm the motor will do. If it's that freaking fast, the motor will let go. Rev limiters were implemented so that on acceleration, the motor will not reach "critical speed" or the point at which parts will fly apart (litteraly!)

that is called Mechanical Overrevving, cause no mater what you do if you do that by mistake your engine will over rev...... this also happens to CART engines, and just ask how much HONDA charges a team when they over rev an engine, even if it doesn't blow......
(hint: $85,000)
(hint: $85,000)
CART engines are leased still (simple explanation), as far as I know, but for a far less than 85k vehicle cost, the average civic owner is SOL if they try to turn that one in

like it matters.
my engine "redlines" at 8000. fuel cut is 8200. Stock tach is off so it registers as 8500. "look my i got an itr engine!"

Well if it makes a difference, I installed an Autometer tach, and my DX redlines at 6800 rpm according to it. Actually it's an Autogage made by Autometer. Same problems with Autogage????

Last nite when I was out with my brother in his 7th gen Ex he had it in cruise control, the stick got knocked into neutral, and the RPM went up to 8k....the rev limiter doesn't help then.

The EK Civic Type R had a redline of 8,400 RPMs... same as the Integra Type Rs. The new CTR (EP) is wack... and not because of it's redline, but because it's virtually a Type S.
