SNAP- goes the airbox screw
so im putting in the K&N air filter...direct replacement...and im unscrewing all of the screws to the airbox...well the top left screw makes a snap noise....and turns but wont come out...so i have to take off the airbox, and pull the sucker out...there's a crack in the plastic. Everything runs and is fine without it, i mean geez, there are like 5 or 6 other screws for just an airbox....so what would you guys do? replace the air box someday, or just upgrade in a few months to a K&N FIPK?
Tell me what you don't like about yourself....

Upgrade! But its not gonna hurt if that one screw is done done. Car manufacturers are always forgetting to put screws in place they should be. I hate taking apart my car and finding spots for screw with no screw! Give a whole new meaning to having a screw lose.

Yeah, thats what i was thinking too, lowboy. As far as upgrading goes, I might look into the fipk around december or so. Like most ppl said, the airbox and car will be just fine, so its not urgent. At least now I have another reason to get the fipk bumped up on the ole priority list.
This a hugely common problem.
It seems that when the screws are tightened, it is easy to over tighten them and then when you go to undo them, they crack out the inserts on the plastic air cleaner.
Basically the new part costs about 40 dollars but it has to be ordered. The easiest way to fix all this is to just buy a FIPK or a short ram air cleaner.
If you have had your car worked on, the previous techs probably overtightened the screws.
