CORROLLA > CIVIC
CORROLLA > CIVIC
I work at a medical laboratory and we have 10 corrollas that couriers drive to pick up specimens to take to the lab and we just bought
3 bandnew 2003 corrollas and i got to drive it today, and that thing drives smoother and the cabin is a lot quieter than my civic (2002 LX 4DR) I would say at least
35% better and i even have my trunk dynamatted and my tire presurre @ 29 cuz if i have at 31 32 im like bouncin all over the place,
im not talking about looks because I still like the vic better and would still get the same car if i get a 2nd chance.
Things i like about the corrolla:
the dash kindda looks like the jetta, it looks good not some cheap plastic, lots of compartments to put stuff in
even the arm rest has alot of storage under it, cd player standard, clock, pwr side mirrors,
door handles from the outside pull out instead of up, the door panels are also solid even if i bang on it i dont hear the whole car shake = )
im really surprised how quiet and solid it runs on the freeway @ 80 mph, running over those darn metal thingys (bumps) in between lanes is not as painfull ; )
at work we have had all kinds of cars.. corrolla, focus and escorts now all we have are the toyotas
we put around 150 miles a day on each car, never warming up, 0-80 in 4 mins from when it was started early in the day
AC on 15 hours a day non stop during summer time with windows rolled down hehe.... putting it in D while car is still going backwards from reverse
stop and go all day, our couriers both day and night couriers has around 75 stops combined so you can just imagine how much that car is parked and started again.
when it gets to 150,000 miles we get a new one and i have never seen one that had a major problem, pretty much we replace the tires, change the oil, gas up,
and replace the brakes alot but thats about it.
but like I said I would still have gotten the vic simply because I like the look of the vic better but mannn if I have a younger sister or a daughter that I have to buy a car for, thats what ill get em
and oh even the trunk lid is insullated underneath and im talking about bone stock and yes not a friggin rattle.

The most important thing about the new Corollas is how smooth the engine is! My god, I just tap the pedal and it feels like I'm going 80-90 Km/h in no time. Personally I think the interior is very cheap in the new Corollas. I like the Vic interior better. The shifter and handbrake feels very cheap. However I think the Corollas are comparable in looks to the Sedan Vics. Coupe vs the Corolla, coupe has better looks hands down. Both cars are pretty good, but the Corolla will cost you less money and has a better engine
the civic is okay, i would have just preferred better design on the lower grill. i dunno maybe its just me, but on the sedans, the top grill is too painted, you know what i mean? while the bottom grill is just flat black/too plain, it doesnt blend in. i prefer the front end of the hybrid better because its consistent on the painting scheme throughout the bumper. this is the only reason why i got my foglights, inorder to have something in that empty looking lower grill. it looks better with a set of foglights although i gotta say, it still looks somehow empty.
imo.
imo.
corolla vs. civic sedan..
corolla is definitely better and more comfortable at the back and front.
inside is great too!..
If they brought a corolla coupe. i would of bought it =).. (i like toyotas)

Corolla = smoother and quieter ride.... after 6 months driving it you either:
a) begin looking like a sweet old lady
b) die of boredom
I love the v-tec´s high rev engine noise, makes me feel alive, bet you cant get that on the corolla.
The looks outside are fine though, I admit that, but the interior is plain and boring, the civic has a cooler interior (if you ignore the rattles of course)

The Corolla CE, LE, and S all share the same engine. Really didn't see a point between the extra $5000 for some skirt kit and fog lights and spoiler. Anyways I used to drive an EX as you Americans would call it before the Corolla CE. I must say, paying $27,000 Canadian for the Si(Ex) and $22,000 Corolla. I think Corolla wins in the performance department while the Civic wins in the interior/looks category.

VVT-i is not quite like the V-TEC at all. Toyota has a system called VVTL-i (add lift) that is more compariable to Honda's VTEC system. It used employed in the Celica GTS, and like DOHC VTEC engines, it adds major punch in the high RPM zone.
VVT-i is actually the OPPOSITE of the V-TEC. It offers exceptional LOW end and MID range punch. At the same time, unlike VTEC, it also improves gas mileage. Corolla feels like it has a 2.0L+ engine.. it is very willing at every gear, and you almost never need to downshift going uphill. VVT-i makes the engine VERY flexible.
Toyota did not create this system for boy-racers. You don't see any DOHC VVT-i stickers or decals on any of their cars. It was meant for mainstream drivers, who perfer consistant and predictable powerband. They want that smoothness and even acceleration, which is not typical in smaller engines and usually have very peaky powerbands. They get nervous and jittery when your car thrusts you to the back of the seat after 5,000RPM.
Unfortunately, this makes it pretty borring to drive. It'll do nothing to raise your heart rate. But that's the whole point about this car. However, despite its "borringness", it still manages to be the best in class in terms of performance. It is one of the best in class for gas mileage (just an eye slash behind our Civics), yet pumps every other car in terms of accceleration. Now, it even outhandles & brakes Civics.
Very impressive!! When you can smoke that kid next to you in his Civic with a big ricer wing & exhaust--it can't be THAT borring.

In other words, the VVT-i is exactly like the VTEC-E found in the EX and HX. I don't know if you meant to portray the Civic in a favorable light or not...but you've just explained exactly what our VTEC-E does. Offers low end torque and high MPG.

As for the torque, no, it's not. You know what, just goto the dealership and drive one. You will know what I mean by more flexible engine. It will astonish you that you are driving a 1.8L. Because if HX Civics were so torque, etc etc, they would employ this super duper VTEC-C in all their cars, sort of like what Toyota is doing with their VVT-i.
Improved gas mileage is only a part of its benifit--the rest are mostly for low end punch. VVT-i was originally developed for the GS400. You will notice that it makes more torque than the BMW's 4.4L V8, with a smaller displacement. Having driven both, you will realize how remarkable VVT-i. It's not something you realize when you punch it off the line. It is more for everyday driving.. you realize it going uphills, when you have extra load, etc... it's all about consistancy.
Racing is for VVTL-i & DOHC V-TECs.
So do you guys think the Corolla will out live a Civic? I hope not, or alteast be comparable, I bought by Honda Civic EX with the V-Tec thinking that it will run for 200,000+ plus miles with proper maintanence.

However both Honda and Toyota are respectable companies and are well known for their reliability. I can't really say the Corolla will outlive the Civic, but both cars are definately comparable. The bottomline comes down to personal taste and preferences and which body style you prefer most.
01 Coupe - Celica GT share the same engine as well as the Steering wheel right? I hate the Corolla steering wheel. Stupid 3 spoke and its so THICK and slippery. I can't even palm the wheel that well anymore. I love Honda's light steering. Great for palming, but not that good in determine road conditions like a German stiff steering would provide.

toyotas arent too bad but they dont last like they used to, i think it'll be the same with the new hondas from what I've been seeing for complaints. BTW, my mom has a 97 camry le V6, fast as hell with K&N intake, but shitloads of problems, hopfully the new camrys are better, also, my mom picks up her 2003 accord v6 next week, cant wait for my next date lol, 240hp aaahhhh
Ive riden in my friends Corolla-S plenty of times and I prefer my 02 civic a hell of a lot more... Now granted her type s is an auto, but it seems so much slower than my car. Although its a better riding car on the freeway. As for stylings, i think they are hideous. The factory kit almost looks ricey to me, like somebody just slapped it on.. just my 2 cents.
