Rep Power: 0 I got screwed, need opinions
hey.
I've got a small story to tell about me getting screwed, and could use some opinions on it.
My car needed some bodywork, and i wanted to get a kit put on at the same time. So anyway, I knew someone that knew a half owner of a bodyshop. and could get my car in fast, no waiting. So I said sure. Then I figured I may as well pre pay, and the bodyshop wanted it anyway. So, I talked to the guy who was apparently the half owner on the phone. And he told me to give the cash to his friend. hmmm, alright. i kinda knew the guy so i did it. then i went to the bodyshop the next morning, and asked if they got paid alright. Their answer "Yes, we appreciate it, thank you".
Then the time came to pick up my car from the shop. And I went in, and they said they were waiting for me to come in with the guy that I gave the money too. they said he told them he needed it for a couple of days. but why did they tell me they'd been payed when i asked. I mean I ASKED FOR A REASON .
So anyway. times gone by. The guy who i gave the money to blames the half owner, but now he's no where to be found. And the bodyshop, wants me to pay AGAIN. now this is $2800CDN. so it's a fair bit of money. I guess when they said they'd been paid I should have asked for it on paper. but now, I'm stuck with the bill for the second time. Since the shop lied to me about it the first time, i don't think it's fair. I think that at most i should pay for my parts, but they shouldn't get a cent out of me on labour. Anyway. right now i'm stuck with no car (it's been in the shop since september). so what do I do? just pay, AGAIN? or try to fight these ******.

Rep Power: 0 If the guy you gave the money to is an employee of theirs...sue their pants off till you get the work done. Make sure you tack on any additional expenses that occured because you haven't had a car during that period of time.

Rep Power: 0 Here's a better idea, call the Better Business Bureau( or whatever the Canadian equivalent is), and tell them you're situation. A call from them to the shop that this happened at should get them to be more responsive. Also, if that doesn't work, call a local TV station (I know a guy who this worked for) and tell them your story. A follow up call from the station to the shop will scare the bejesus out of them and they will probably work it out. Nothing scares a business more than bad press.

Rep Power: 0 hmmm, those are good suggestions. very good suggestions. I'll have to do that on monday. even just to hear what they say.
The funny thing is. I have told quite a few people to call the BBB over other matters, but it didn't even come to mind here. good call.
