Rep Power: 0 2003 corolla s vs My 2001 civic ex
here is the deal... my buddy just got a new corolla s that looks sweet
but i was woundering what u guys thing about racing each other... who would win
Corolla s(Sedan)
Stock
Automatic
1.8L DOHC 130HP VVT-i@6000
*edit* 125ft/lb @4200
(factory body kit, spoiler)
2590 LBS.
Tires: probably potenzas 195/65r/15
Civic EX(Sedan)
Custom exhaust
engine is stock
Manual 5Spd
1.7L SOHC 127HP @6300 Vtec
*edit* 114ft/lb @4800
Spoiler
2557 LBS.
Tires: Toyo 800 ultra touring 185/65r/15
Bottom line... i think it should be pretty even considering hes got the automatic... but the extra 3 hp plus the DOHC would help him out...
has anyone ridden in the new corollas? do they pick up better than civics?
personally i think my car has an advantage cause its a stick...
*update*
we raced today...
Run 1 - i won by about a car length....
Run 2 - he won by a bumper length
Run 3 - i won by half a car length...
but i was woundering what u guys thing about racing each other... who would win

take out your spare, everything in the trunk, and try to lose weight before the race. But really though I think this will be determined by driver. How torquey are the corolla-s'?

Rep Power: 0 I think you'll beat him no problem.
I don't know if this is accurate, but I was about to buy a Corolla-S...
Corolla had lower weight, a little bit more hp and torque...
then my friends said even with better specs on the Corolla, Civic will still win ( I don't know why.. ), but he sounded very convincing.
I was about half half on the decision.. so I just went with a Civic (IT LOOKS BETTER TOO).
Please let us know.. how it goes.

Rep Power: 0 Why did you all get the Sedans. the coupe would destroy it (sort of). The sadan with the exhaust should win. Just make sure you get a good jump off the start so he can't kill you when you hit 3rd. Oh and red lind it in 1st. VTEC kicks in around 3500 so make sure when you shift to second you are still at VTEC. These cars suck in second otherwise. However 3rd, 4th, and 5th aren't bad for pickup in the Zones. I have much experience in this with my STOCK civic EX coupe. I have beatin' a 3000gt Off the line and in second, but he destroyed me in third. An Eclipes GS, Z3, believe it or not, and a focus (non SVT). But I have the Coupe!

Rep Power: 0 what im trying to figure out is how does the corolla stack up against our cars... is the new VVT-i really good?
when does it kick in and stuff
should i go test drive a new corolla? and see for myself?
heres what i think will happen, hes gonna be off the line first... since its an automatic... but will i be able to catch up?

As for the corolla s, since it is an auto, I think you would definately win. Now, if it was a corolla 5sp, you'd be in for a wee bit of trouble...

Rep Power: 0 Like I said, you should be able to beat him simply because it's an auto. You have a huge advantage because you have a 5sp. Now, like I said, a corolla s 5sp would be a completely different story.
These 2 cars are pretty close performance wise with the edge going to the corolla s. If you get a good launch and take him off the line, you'll win. Neither car has enough power to overtake the other once it is behind.

Doubt it makes much difference, but just clarifying as not to confuse people.

Rep Power: 0 u can beat him cuz the rolla is auto, otherwise u sucks driving stick, j/k, its a logic that a car with more hps/torque AND lighter is faster, but not a case where the Z compare to s2000

Rep Power: 0 I ask about sedans becuase they look like you should be taking your kids to school and then getting groceries afterwards. NOT RACING. And 15lbs here and there makes a huge difference. They have a rear simularity to Volvo. As for the VTEC thing. My bad I typoed or brainfarted. I knew that, I sware. 4500 4500 4500 4500 4500 4500 4500 4500. There now it is engraved. No more mistakes.
I don't mean to hate on the 4 drs. but did you purposely buy them or were they gifted? Only thing I could think to do to a 4dr 2001 civic would be a IS300 conversion. Well Have fun with them. I wish you all the best in racing and styling.

That 9.9:1 is the LX/DX... the EX VTEC has 11:1 compression.

Looks are a subjective, NOT objective attributes. Personally, am not fond of the coupe's looks...so what?
15lbs is insignificant. The only way that 15lbs would really effect anything is if it was in the wheels. Seeing that the ex comes with the same wheels regardless of sedan/coupe, that 15lbs is meaningless.
Oh, and I bought my sedan. Yes, I do have a daughter...It's more practical for me.
Lastly, if you think the coupe is any more of a race car than sedan, I have a nice geo metro I'd like to sell ya...
civicsportscar is an oxymoron...
