Stupid question: What is "missing a shift?"

Stupid question: What is "missing a shift?"

Like if you say you missed a shift or something. I have an auto, and when I've driven manuals I've never done this (knock on wood). if you miss 2nd does it mean you shifted from 1st into 4th or something?

Doesn't "missing a shift" mean you depress the clutch too late or let off the clutch too early, causing you to grind gears?? I don't see how some one could just accidentally "miss" a gear (i.e. going from 1st to 4th) or whatever, unless you really suck at shifting.

Yeah.... this is what I thought too... When your feet and your hand aren't working in sync and you don't get it gear before your left foot comes up.

lol.....its more common on 6 speeds cuz the gears are like a lot closer together an its real easy to hit the wrong gear especially when yer racin an tryin to do it fast
