Honda Pick-up Trucks
I think Honda should start making pick-ups...They will out-sell any other company!!! If Honda OR Acura ever made a pick up i will be like on the waiting list to get one. Damm Honda Im gonna write them a letter right now...
Honda is a great company and I would most likely buy a truck from Honda but there is no way that they could compete with GMC, Chevy, Toyota, and Ford. Each brand has their "life-time" owners. You would never see a Chevy owner buying a Honda truck just like they would never buy a Ford or a Toyota. I would think the only chance they had would be comming out with a small truck, and/or a luxary truck under Acura.
I sure wish my car was newer

Think about the majority of people who buy pick-ups, then think about the majority of the people who are big Honda fans. They're not the same audience. I do not think of power or towing capacity or the things I associate with a truck. I don't think I would buy a Honda 'sports car' either, not that I don't like the S2000. There are just a lot of cars I would rather spend my money on.

I can see it now.
Honda luver: "Domestics suck, my Honda truck is so much more reliable than your F-150"
Domestic driver: "Your truck has an engine made by GM."
Honda luver: "GM is a japanese company."
Domestic driver: *sigh*

I could see honda having a niche market in the compact truck market but nothing more. I think that the toyota compacts do ok but I don't think their full-size does that well.
Honda doesn't really have the engines available that a truck typically requires. However, it is no secret that most truck and suv owners don't use them for anymore than to transport the kids to soccer practice.
I would hope honda wouldn't use a gm engine. WTF? Talk about dismissing the reliability and mpg. GM trucks have terrible reliability. I think Ford is far better.

Ok here's how I see it. It would go entirely against Honda's philosophy to build a truck engine. As far as trucks go, yes, GM is a very good company to get the engine from.
Trucks need torque, Honda engine=nowhere near enough torque to be competitive.
And besides, GM is using a Honda engine in a saturn, so they could just return the favor.
edit: I just thought about how different this sounds.........
Bubba: hey cleetus, I just got me a new pickemup truck!
Cleetus: really? what kinda pickemup truck you git?
Bubba: Hownda
Cleetus: what in the hayell? a Hownda pickemup truck?
Bubba: yeeeeep........

Hondas can't make trucks. End of story. All the so-called "SUVs" that they have are based on cars & vans and are meant for on-road use only. Even their tow-rating is pathetic, and they don't have a single decent RWD platform that is suitable for anything heavy duty. In fact, they haven't even made any V8s yet.
Like somebody said earlier, the Big Three has a tight grip on the truck market. Even Toyota & Nissan, who's reputation around the globe as a premiere truck maker, has a tough time pentrating the North American market.

It's not that honda can't build a good truck, or toyota for that matter, changing the preception of the people that drive trucks is the real problem. The cr-v does very well. The pilot is doing well.
Anyhow, I definately would not want to be a foreign manufacturer in the truck (excluding SUVs) market. I have been driving hondas for 10 years and would most likely buy a ford if I was going after a full-size truck. Toyota if after a compact truck.

I think if Nissan and Toyota can do it, than Honda can do it. They have the money and resources to at least give it a good shot. I think they can pull it off. Will it become the number one selling truck? I doubt it, Will they make a profit, yes. That my 2c
hehe, one of my crazy dreams is to put a turbo H22 into a ranger, then again I also want to buy an old civic hatch and jack it up so it sits about three feet in the air. Only if I can win the loto..................Anywho, if honda makes a good looking truck, with good power and gas milage if will sell, it won't do the F150's numbers, but it will still sell.
