A traffic cop with a Type-R? Give up now...
Found this tidbit at carenthusiast.com:
Many British police forces are now selecting Honda cars for a variety of applications - and the order take is growing daily.
"During the first half of this year, we have won contracts to supply vehicles to 15 police forces, as well as several MOD establishments, " says Brian Jameson, Honda's Corporate Aftersales Manager. "Honda wants to be seen as a good corporate citizen and is proud to support Britain's emergency services with vehicles that are locally built. And what better endorsement of our products than for them to be selected on merit for use by Britain's police, fire and ambulance authorities," says Jameson.

uhuhu, and what happens when they need to transport a criminal or even push a dead car off the road for that matter? thats a retarded idea. theres a reason why the police here use large RWD V8 boats.

well, as im SURE you guys know, the Accord Type R is a sedan, which when needed, could easily transport a criminal....
also, why do some PD's in the U.S. have Corvetts or 5.0 Mustangs as police cars?? sometimes speed is more important!

its not like the Accord Type R is that fast...
it just depends on where the car is used, and for what purpose.
obviously for us here, a big police interceptor or cruiser works best... and I'm sure they have other vehicle for other purposes too.
but ie: in japan, small cars fit small street.. thats why u got all kinds of police vehicles.

Ahh Type R maybe I should go become an officer yeah roads would make a big difference on what kind of vehicle they would choose. Here the big boats and Expeditions I see most

Sorry forgot.. they are the GT-R's too

There not going to be using those cars for transporting criminals and doing a bunch of crazy isht with them. They use them on the freeways and highways just like here in the U.S. where we use camaros and mustangs.

As I understand it, daytime driving in England is bogged down by traffic and weather---some mean fog over there!
When the speeders come out at night, the police break out their Volvo T5's...although these would still be no match for, say, a Turbo Porsche or a Supra TT.

some of u guys need to get out and travel. european streets are small as hell thats why all they mostly have is small cars over there. its not like here where people buy big suv's just cuz its huge. most likely those cars will just be used in cities and stuff since its so cramped and probably gets decent mileage.

Imports really don't make sense for domestic cops...
First of all, US government wants to support US car makers. Not the Japanese. It's political, but cop cars make up for the vast majority of the Ford Crown Vic sales.
Also, imports are not cost efficient. Cheapest RWD V8 import? Hmm... Lexus GS400? Mercedes E-Class? They just don't make $20,000USD V8 with RWD.
The cheapest V8 Japanese that I can think of is a Toyota Tundra pickup truck.. which is actually employeed by Ontario Provincial Police here in Canada for misc offroad duties.
V6 or 4 bangers are totally out of question. When push comes to shove, can you see an Accord trying to push a stolen Ford Expedition off the road to end a chase? It's be kinda hard.. but I *DO* see Japanese cars being more useful for court summons vehicles (you know, the constables that deliver court letters). They are good on gas & reliable.
As for the "Need for Speed", Camaro V8 highway patrol car is a LOT better than an ITR... again, for physical abuse reasons. There is a very good reason why they don't use a fibreglass bodied Corvette instead.
On that note, I think cops should have an AWD drivetrain.. they need to catch criminals regardless of the weather condition.

Everyone is pretty much correct...it's just a different world. Like Jochij said, European streets are small. I've been to Spain and their police forces use little Fiats, Seats, and Skodas for in-city duties and larger Alfas, Opels, and renaults for open-road patrols. Even the larger cars are not very powerful but then again, car chases are not as common in Europe--at least in Spain--and they rely more on cameras to control traffic and issue citations.

.. just think about what you just said for a second... then think about which of those cars are actually "fast".

Cop cars are SSSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW . With all the crap they stuff into those things, they run about 15.5-16 in a 1/4 mile. It just so happens that Civics are slower, but anyone who tries a high speed chase in a Civic deserives to be caught. The light bar on top creates so much drag they can't go much more than 115. That's why so many departments are going to low profile bars or in car lights. It ups the top speed to 130-140. Still not lightning quick, but that's what the Camaros are for.

Yes cop cars are slow. They are weighed down by lots of extra weight from beefed up components and cargo not to mention all the wear and tear the engines have on them from thousands of miles. They run like 16.5 in the 1/4.

Common police engines found in the Crown Victoria, Impala, Caprice Classic (not made anymore), and even the Mustang SSP do not have modified engines. They're exactly the same as civilian versions.
They are chipped with a interceptor chip, no speed governer, diff shift points, %100 shift feel, etc...
Partially true...I do own one you know.
The P71 chip does alter shift points, such as earlier downshifts for "pursuit", but the feel of them is nearly the same as the civi version. Speed governor is set to 139mph...I think, but it varies by year. There's also alot of other cool stuff police vics get...some get 3.73 gears in the back, the new ones have an aluminum metal matrix driveshaft (reduce vibration at highspeeds), not to mention heavy duty suspention for hopping curbs and other fun stuff like that.
edit: Dual exhaust also gives them 15 extra HP.

Ive seen an undercover cop car that had a twin turbo LS1 stuffed in the engine bay before. When the original engines crap out, you think they are going to replace it with the same lame@$$ motor. No.
