Yet another post about the RSX....
....and the freakin' RSX is AWESOME!!!! I went to the Acura dealership and test drove the RSX-type S (this past Saturday) and MAN, I WAS IMPRESSED!! So I'm scrapping together whatever money I have and seeing if i'm gonna be able to trade in my EX for the Type S....
But don't get me wrong, cuz I love the Civic. It's gotten me everywhere I've needed to be and it's super reliable. It's just the lack of power that's holding me back.
And I've actually got a question... For those of you out there who've traded their Civic for an RSX, about how much did the dealer give you for the Civic? Mine's an EX, 5-Spd. so I'm wondering if they'll give me the full amount to pay it off..

I think the Type S to some people is either slow or fast. To me, with 200HP it's nothing more than a slightly faster Integra GS-R performance-wise. Like PseudoChrist said, it all depends on your taste. The Type S comparing to it's cousin Civic is gonna be fast, and fortunately the Type S engine is more responsive to mods than the Civic. There's also plentyful you can do with this car performance-wise more than any other new Honda out there as more will definitely come. I think it's a solid car and you should try getting the best deal you can for it out the door. The girls love it. It can pull off high 14s stock with a good driver. It is one of the most capable new FWD cars out there.
The WRX is a more serious car as it is also pretty affordable... just about $900 more than the Type S. All-wheel drive and turbo... plus very restrictive intake and exhaust systems make it an aftermarket bolt-on god. A bigger turbo would make it SO much faster. 4-wheel drive makes it king of handling. This is probably the best small sports car out there on the market. I would hate to compare a Type S to a WRX Impreza, especially stock Vs stock. You do get a lot more overall performance in the WRX than the Type S for the $ paid. It's faster and it handles much better.
The Type S being the most underpowered car for it's price? Let's see... cars ranging from 170HP - 210 and 227HP (with one exception):
You COULD get a Celica GT-S for almost $2,000 less.
Or you could get a Mitsubishi Eclipse GT which is faster than both for around $21,000 (they lowered their price because...)
Drop in 4 more grand and you can get the new GTS which comes with 10 more HP.
A Hyundai Tiburon V6 is $18k with 170HP.
The SVT Focus is $18.5k.
Top of the line V6 Mercury Cougar: $20k.
Ah, wait... but the MR-2 Spyder retails at $24.5k. It may only have 138HP, but it runs low 15s stock due to a light chassis.
Camaro Z28... 310HP for $22k. (after hearing this car got raped by an Integra Type R... it's overall value just decreased.)
Mazda's new Protege Sport: 20k.
Nissan Altima runs at $23k.
200HP Grand AM: $20k.
GTI VR6 200: $21.7k.
Jetta GLI: $23k.
Audi A4: $25k.
New Beetle Turbo S (180HP): $23.5k.
Subaru Impreza WRX: $24k
Acura RSX Type S: $23.1k
The worse buys for their $ are:
Eclipse GTS (should've been AWD but we all know why it's not. Even so...!)
MR-2 Spyder
Acura RSX Type S
Maybe the Grand AM GT
There were a lot more cars but mostly domestics like the Intrepid... bah. Mini Cooper S.

I don't know which one I'd take out of the WRX or the Type S...
The WRX lies on the level of performance I'd be looking for but it's exterior is something I don't like. The STi however slightly improves upon it... but then again, it also improves upon performance as well (can you say 280 horsepower?). Around here, the WRX is a vastly driven car by all kinds of people. I see more of these than 7th Gen Civic coupes sometimes.
The Type S is more of the opposite to me. Not enough overall performance but suitable appearance-wise. The funny thing is, I'm much more inclined to take the FWD over the AWD car... thus the only thing that could balance the gap of performance and style for ME... is the Type R. You can bet the new 220HP Integra Type R will make challenge of the WRX. (Hell, so would the old one.)
Heh... and come to think of it, we're getting an 2k4 STi. A Type R is still a distant dream.

To answer your question my dealer is giving me $14k for my automatic 01 Civic EX coupe.
Personally the power isnt really that great...there is faster out there to be had for much cheaper..
