i have a question

hey whats up, i have a question about my car. well i was going really fast redlining until 3rd, i shifted to 4th gear but then the rpms went all the way switching between 8 to 8 1/2 about end of the red for about 3 seconds. this is bad and somehow i guess it went to second gear going 80 mph. my car runs fine but i was wondering what bad things could happen

The bad things that could happen is a blown engine. You can bend the valves or throw a rod or something like that... the engines aren't designed to run that fast. Just be more careful when you shift on the redline.

Mis-shifting sucks. The furthest I've redlined my car on a mis-shift out of 3rd was 7,500 RPMs. It can happen easier on a 6-speed if you're hella used to a 5-speed for cars like the Celica GT-S, or even the RSX Type S. The GT-S has it worse though for it's retarded gear box.

I did that once intentionally for only a very short while. Shifted from 3rd to 2nd and the rpm's were past the rpm limiter (7,000 or so), so I accelerated a bit more until I finally switched to 3rd. I remember going about 80mph before finally shifting up again to third gear. It's not too healthy for the engine, so I won't be doing that again. Although the tight tolerances of our ULEV engines mean that we can run at higher rpm's for longer than previous generation civics. Still though, not doing that will lessen the chance of your motor going out on you.

I thought they fixed the GT-S gear box, or at least tried too....everyone was misshifting them cause the shift gates are so fawking close together if i remember correctly

I dunno if they fixed it... that could explain why they stopped covering mis-shifts under warranty.

I never knew that... so there is some benefit to having a ULEV engine, hehehe... no wonder Honda says, "Rev it up" in their 2k2 Civic catalogue (for the EX Civic).

That's why we can have thinner oil too. The clearances are tighter, the oil is thinner, but it still lubricates just as well. Reduced friction from the thinner oil and various other little improvements give us that ULEV status.

If it lubricates the oil just as good, then why would people consider using 10w-30 and 5w-30 oil for drives who like to drive over 3,000RPMs? Does it not matter?
