Reaction to a Custom Turbo
I know that there are a few of you out there with custom turbos on your car. Honestly, im quite jelous. Ok, so we've heard this and that about getting one, putting it on, and so on...but i have yet to read anything on how you lucky turbo people like your investment. Maybe ive just been missing the threads, but how do you guys and gals like it? You getting any major power gains? Any of you run a 1/4 with your turbo? Any dyno runs yet? I was at the track recently (as in yesterday), getting my a$$ handed to me by a few cars, and i want something that will give them a better run for their money. I know i should consider Nitrous, but i really dont want to go there. So let us know...
Peace~

Havn't done any dyno testing or haven't took it to the track. I think it is awsome. Put it this way. I can cherp the tires into 4th somtimes. It feels like using a 50 shot of nitrous all the time. I also have a 25 shot of nitrous for low RPM spools.

chirp 4th huh!?! Thats awsome!! Is that with running your nitrous? How much psi are you running? When does your turbo kick in? I am nearly convinced that i want a turbo setup on my car. I just have to talk to some people, find out what they can do for me on prices and things like that. What kind of turbo are you using? Do you regret getting that one, as opposed to maybe a smaller one that would spool up faster? Ok im sorry, i dont mean to flood you with questions, i just want to know some of the particulars.
Thanks for the responce,
Peace~

Wow, chirp 4th?
On what kind of tires? Stock?
Yeah, a T3/T4 is just not right for our cars IMO. That is unoless you plan on getting a stroker kit when it becomes available. Then you might be able to use it properly. I've done massive research on turbo size and based on the fuel maps I've seen I think that a lower end T3 is good for 200 - 215 horsies at the crank. If you think that you'll go with aftermarket pistons in the future, then maybe a higher end T3 like a Super 60 trim will do you. You can expect anywhere from 250 - 275 horsies at the crank. That's with some major modifications though! Even when using the smaller lower end T3's it's very hard to get to 200 - 215 horsies at the crank. You will need good cooling to prevent detonation. Maybe retarded timing as well. Higher octane gas for sure. A good intercooler is a must as well. Not to mention a new head gasket to be able to run over a certain psi. Some say 10psi, but a safer estimate is 8psi. Otherwise you'll blow the head gasket!
Edit:
Ignition timing! Valve timing could also be played with, but I'm referring to ignition timing.

yeh 14.7 is around right..it more than 14.5 and less than 15..but at one bar is "safe" i can always go over one but it jsut puts the turbo harder at work but if done consistantly it will blow...boost gauges are life savers
i've been saving for a couple months for a turbo, i've only got 1000 put away, but i'll eventually have one. what about the intercooler, or do you have a nitrous cooling system like that one guy with the first turbo? anyways, i'm looking for a smaller fast spooling turbo and some more information on what it's safe to run it at and what i can do to my engine to run it higher.

Yeah, that one dude had an air to water intercooler and he had a nitrous line going into the reservoir for that intercooler. He could spray nitrous into it and make the cooling medium very cold. I don't know how cold, but maybe even below zero. Of course, he'll need antifreeze in the cooling medium. Anyway, the colder the cooling medium, the colder the air will be going into the engine. The colder the air going into the engine the more dense it is. The more dense it is, the more fuel is added by the ECU (ECM) to compensate. More air and fuel means a bigger bang and more power.
anyone heard of aquamist system..it was on scc mag..the 200sx se-r running 22psi on pump gas..
they said it felt like it made pump gas run like 108 racing octane..also helps cooling 90% and from detonation

Yeah, I think that's basically little spray nozzles that spray the intercooler (aftercoler) on the outside of the car. It's good during a drag race since when water evaporates it absorbs heat. You'de need a switch for it though. I hear that you can get some considerable gains doing this.
Wait, there's also some kind of mist system that sprays water into the combustion chamber. That may be what you're talking about. This is a good idea as well, but I don't know much about it. Jackson Racing has a system like this for sale.
