Do Nice Civics Necessarily Have To Be Asian Owned?
I know you guys will say no, and I agree. There are plenty of people on this forum of all races. Sometimes though people stereotype that if you're Asian, you own a Honda Civic. My persian cousins had known nothing about my car before. They guessed right away that I had a Honda Civic out of all cars. One time at work I was approached by this random girl and was like is that your honda civic? I was like yea, and she complimented me, but out of all the people in the store, she guessed me. Whenever I get an oil change as well I don't even have to ask anything, whatever man at the desk will ask if it's my civic. Kinda get annoyed of these racial stereotypes, but what can you do. Side note: Honda service workers don't know anything. They started telling me that my car wouldn't pass emissions due to my projector headlights, even though they say SAE DOT on the lens right there.

I get annoyed by those stereotypes as well, just goes to show how ignorant some people are. It really doesn't matter in the first place if a hooked up civic is owned by a person of any color. Black, white, brown, blue, purple, green, whatever. It's the persons own taste and originality that makes the car special to them.

I'm a cracker jack and a couple friends of mine saw my car for the first time. I asked how they liked it and they said "Its nice, but it looks Asian." I was like "Wtf is that supposed to mean? Only Asians drive nice cars?"

Its just a common stereotype that everyone has. I hate stereotypes.

yeah before i started driving i thought all hooked up cars n stuff was an asian thing.. (im vietnamese/chinese by the way) then wen i went to actual street races here in south philly.. turns out its mostly white ppl wiht the serious fast cars.. a few ricers here and there.. couple black doods and couple asian doods.. thats bout it
also in philly i notice alot of the more "hardcore" racing ppl that are asian drive integras, preludes, Z's, and supras.. not that many civics
and i think the term rice is loosely related to asian ppl.. hence the stereotype is "asian doods in there hondas (new or beatup) with wings, rims, unpainted kits, stickers, altezzaz.. led washer.. etc.." and its known fact that alotta azn ppl eat rice on a daily basis..
also ive heard of honda'z and other japanese cars referred to as rice rockets, or rice burners.. etc..
i dunno just rambbling

I hate that crap too... All the rich people that live around me dont like my roommate and I because we drive little import cars that make lots of noise. (Roommate has a Prelude SH)
Yah, theres not too many asians on this site. But you gotta admit, its true though. Majority of asian teens drive either a Honda or an Acura. & i'm one of them =P But hey, we stereotype other people too. Lowriders = Mexican Bling Bling rims = Black Nothing to get upset over, just how the world is.
LOL that crap happened to me yesterday. My car was parked outside the gym when I was inside working out and some white guy asks if thats my civic outside then compliments it. WTF there was at least 10 other dudes at the gym and 2 asian girls and of course he asks the only asian guy if its my civic.
im asian/vietnamese.. well here in san antonio texas if you're asian they will assume you have a nice car and they wont even rev up to you.. ever since i got my car back like 2-3 weeks ago none of the peoples here have rev up to me.. all i have is body work. octane front/sides buddy club rear, carbon fiber hood, dropped with gc's, and si rims.. no one has rev up to me.. they seem asian have nice mods.. because I sure dont..

Asians might be the predominant drivers of fixed up Japanese cars but that doesn't make a fixed up ride racially "Asian." I think that's ridiculous.
And Asians are NOT the only race that eat a lot of rice! If it's a racial expression, it's a stupid one because of the fact that there are a lot of other cultures and races that eat rice.

HAHAHAHHAH.... this foo said "all i have is body work". Then explains every Mod in detail

What does reving up have to do w/ anything?
well in my neck of the woods.. that's not the case at all. the countless times i've seen civics on the road, they were driven by women. and alot of those times, attractive white women. but i dont think the sterotype is neccessarily about nice civics... the vast majority of small minded non-asians, think that ALL asians drive asian cars.. and to be honest, that is somewhat true. ALOT of asian-american drive jap. imports, but to say "ALL".. that would be false.
another "proven" sterotype that has nothing to do with race, is about college students. "all college students drive civics" you wouldnt imagin how many civics, mostly 5th-6th gen., i see walking out of the garage and across the parking lot.
i guess im a devestating sterotype, i drive a civic, i go to college, AND i eat rice on a daily basis.

I am mostly white(German and Italian) but have some black ancestors also - most people think I am Hispanic when they see me. I have never had any people make stereo typical comments about my car becasue of my race/skin color tho...

First off, I am a white male and drive a civic sedan. Second, I almost never see anyone but white people driving civics. Mostly, I see white woman driving them. I have never thought or knew that a civic, modified or not, was considered an asian car. It must be a 16-18 yr old high-school thing.

its not mainly an 16-18 thing, its probably cause of where you live. places like in washington state (where its mainly white dominated, not sure if its like that in charlotte), i doubt they have they big stereotype. as in LA, there are many asians here(compared to other places in america). i'm sure most people consider a fixed up civic an "asian car". my driving school teacher even said that thats probably why i was in the class trying to clear my ticket. cause i was profiled as a typikal asian racer wannabe. i'm not sure if this is why i was pulled over but i highly doubt that this didn't come across in the officers mind while writing me up.

Yea, there probably are less asians in the area than in some others. However, I do go to the university of nc here in charlotte where about 16k students attend. It's a very diverse student body. There are plenty of asian students at the college. I don't know, you guys make a great point. I have just never thought about the civic that way. I have heard the stereotype that mostly black people drive maximas but nothing about the vic.
lol it has been my observation that asians tend to be a lot ricier than most, thats just my observation from living in Plano TX, and the of course the worst is a redneck trying to hook up an import.....*shudder*
