So I took my car to JPR Motorsports and to the Honda Dealer and got the same response. My auto transmission is slipping badly and will break soon. The dealer quoted me $3000 for a rebuilt transmission.
I REALLY DON'T WANT TO SPEND $3K JUST TO KEEP MY CAR STOCK, so ...
I'm talking to Import Builders, Area 51, and JPR about putting a B16 in.
I'll keep you all updated.

I'm also writing a letter to American Honda asking them to fix my transmission for free since I'm just a few thousand over the warranty period. Tranny's aren't supposed to go bad at 38,000 miles.

I have downshifted to D3 on the freeway from time to time.. but that shouldnt cause the tranny to break.
I dont even race my car.

Rep Power: 0 Damn that sucks! Are you sure there is nothing else you've done to your car? I am at 27k and I don't want that shiz to happen to me All the Hondas that my dad has owned have been through over 100k before any tranny problems.

Rep Power: 0 Could it also be because of the grade logic thing that helps you automatically downshift to D3. I think it puts more wear and tear on your tranny. I have an auto and I really don't like the grade logic because it shifts when I don't want it too.

Rep Power: 0 exactly my point... the tranny is supposed to last a lot longer than 38k miles or 14k in the other guy's case. I never really drove it stupid either... i've driven to redlin a handfull of times, but who hasn't? I never really abused the motor/tranny... thats why this is so annoying.

Rep Power: 0 Man, my auto tranny went out at like 40K, but I had the extended warrenty. Rep Power: 456 I was one of those people that bought an auto because I live in a stop-n-go kinda city and I didn't really feel like dealing with shifting all day. Also, I didn't buy my car to race. The closest drag strip around here is ~2.5 hours away, and I don't feel like driving that far every weekend, putting on unnecessary milage. I seriously hope that this isn't a major problem and has only plauged these "select few". Time will tell I guess.

havent you wondered why the warrantee is only for 36k miles and then for some "strange" reason your car starts having more and more problems? i know honda is pretty reliable as far as that goes, and i didnt think they did this, but many companies engage in a practice called something like "specified lifecycle engineering" or something like that...i forget the exact buzz word. the parts of the car are designed to break after a certain time. its a shady practice, but it keeps people buying new cars or paying for replacement parts.
perhaps honda isnt as reliable is it once used to be.

I'm also getting prices for a B16A5 and a '98 GSR swap. It's looking reasonable so far, but I haven't gotten firm estimates yet, just guesses.
