Maybe old news, but XS Engineering is SUPPOSEDLY coming out with turbo kit
Ok, Im gonna start off by saying that this is just a RUMOR from APG Performance. He told me that XS Engineering is coming out with a Turbo Kit and that they are gettin things squared away on their test car. Supposedly they are gettin like 270 hp from the kit by converting the fuel system to a return fuel system. I dont have any pics or anything else so dont ask. This is just hear say for now and the only reason why Im posting this is just for information sake just to let everyone know. Now, let me go and get a flame retardent suit on before things start to get toasty. Later.

I've also heard rumors that Drag is coming out with a kit this January, for around $3500, expecting a gain of 100 hp/115 tq. Have not been able to contact Drag directly about this yet, but when I do, I'll post the results.

Im guessing it will be alot due to the fact that you are remapping your entire fuel system. But it sounds like they know what there doing. Not dumb like the other comp's trying to use our stock returnless system and still keep the ulev emitions....
Yeah, to produce 270 at the crank the turbo is gonna have to be pushing a bit over 1.1 BAR or close to 15 PSI of boost, that is not gonna happen on stock internals of the d17a =\
thats not too bad though, with 270 at the crank and new internals, perhaps even a bore, port and polish, front mount intercooler, our civics are looking at 12s, which is pretty commendable, I would be all over that shiet. I was hoping with a built motor our civics could run about 2.0 BAR boost for drag events, mmm 350 WHP Civic sounds mighty sweet.

so where do i sign up to be a tester of this nice set up ??? and i gotta go clean my jeans first but ll call and offer my car as ademo ... they blow it up i want a rsx type s or a new si he he he
Still have to convince my wife of the reason I would NEED this...
But I guess the warranty would be shot...
Unless I could prove that engine problems weren't with the turbo...HAHA
I can't afford it anyway...

I believe the XS kit for the Celica GTS has been dynoed at 250 at the wheels, i forget the exact number but it was high. That's the same kit that's been talked about for the Matrix, with some minor modiications.
Also, XS was the first to turbo an IS300. 400 whp, at stock compression!! Pretty impressive, however, their promised shippable kit never materalized. They would however do kits at their facility. So, even if they've done something with the Civic, it might be a one off item.

Could you explain a little how you got those numbers? I'm not that much in the know about boost.

On the subject whether an engine can handle a certain amount of boost, any engine can "handle" any amount of boost provided by a turbo, but the question is for how long and how well, I belive that with a totally built up internals our d17 can handle 2.0 BAR for racing and probably about .8 to 1.0 BAR for daily driving, without breaking down. Of course to weild that kind of horsepower the transmission has to be changed to one that can handle taking that kind of power from the engine and putting it to the wheels, and also brakes which can control that much HP. It's a very daunting and expensive task to have a turbo that is that powerful on our cars, and unless you have lots of money I wouldn't even consider it, that is why most kits that "Ship Out" only make about 6-12 PSI, so you do not have to change too much internally and do not have to make costly upgrades to the drivetrain and brakes.
My guess, and this is from knowing people with turboed civics and what they run, is that our D17 motor can probably handle 8 pounds of boost on the stock engine. Thats about 180 HP at the flywheel for the LX model which is more suitable for a turbo. Which really isnt a bad chunk of HP and with an intercooler, and I/H/E, with Removed cats, I would say that a civic has a good chance to run low 14s, for probably around 3-4 thousand dollars.

Well, I guess from my dad told me that he heard from the guy at APG is that they also solved the fuel system problem. (returnless to return) About the stock internals, Im probably gonna change that too, so I think it MIGHT be possible to get 270 when you I do that.

I just got off the phone with APG and he told me that they solved the fuel problem by converting it to return and it is running 280hp on stock internals. He also told me that it was still running too lean so they might even come in with better fuel injectors and fuel pump to get even more out of it. I asked him about that and he told me that an integra can run 375hp on its stock internals and that the bottom end of d17 is pretty strong. He also told me that there is a guy out of mexico who is desiging a supercharger for 7th gens too. He will have more info on that in about 6-8 weeks. I asked him that for about $6000 could he get my turbo kit and new internals done, and he said no problem. Also, he told me that I would be well over 280hp with that setup. Again, this is still all talk until I actually have info, pics, and everything sitting in my car, take this worth a grain of salt.
Ask me about your mom.

Actually if you think about it, I would rather do the turbo kit and internals than to pay for k20. Again, if anything does actually comes out. He's gonna call me within the next few weeks about this because there are a lot of people that are asking for this in my area. we shall see though.

270 hp
