Need help with friend's '02 Civic EX
Hey guys, I'm not big into the import scene so I'm not sure what parts are available for Civic's. My friend bought a 2002 Civic EX w/ the vtec and what not. I'm wondering what basic starter mods he can do. I'm thinkin' along the lines of maybe I/H/E mods and maybe a vtech controller (even though I have no idea what they do) He's not very mechanically inclined but I am so if someone could kinda give me some pointers and what not, that'd be great. As far as exhaust goes, no fartcans, sorry. We're trying to keep the rice level on his car to a minimum. Thanks for the help guys.

race? i never said a civic was faster, all im saying is i would rather be a ricer than a piece of white trash, thats all. and calling civics POS is not gonna get you very much help from everything that drives these "crappy" cars in your opinion. is your friend computer illiterate too is that why you need to research for him. ill just give you one piece of advice, anything you do to his car is not going to get it much faster short of nos, an engine swap, or a custom turbo, and i doubt daddy will pay for that like he did the car, so let him decide how he can enjoy the car better and if he wants something faster go buy another car, plain and simple.
if anyone thinks im being unfair or "flaming" read the thread right before this one "Downshifting at red lights... " you'll see where im coming from just defending us civics and good drivers

Hahaha so now I'm a piece of white trash huh? Who says I'm even white? Wow, you really show how naive you are when you spout off like this. So basically you're saying that Civic's don't respond to bolt-ons huh? So I guess we should just throw some 20's, a body kit and a big aluminum wing on it right? And I never said anything about Civic's being POS's before you started up. His car is decent. Far from what I'd expect of a upper trim level car, but oh well. I thought the EX's came w/ real wheels on them but I was wrong. The car could use SEVERAL upgrades in just about every area, but I guess that's why they only sell for 11 or 12 grand brand new. That's what lets the kids modify them to their own tastes I guess. Like I said before, I'm here to learn a bit more about which bolt-ons are the best to help the car move a bit quicker. I think he wants to go turbo on it in the future, but that's a ways away. So lets get back on topic now and hear some suggestions on the best bolt-ons you guys have put on.
i told you, bolt ons arent going to do anything for the money, in that i am being honest. you can get an intake that will give you 1 maybe 2 additional horsepower, a pulley kit thatll give you 2 max, and a nice exhaust which if youre lucky, youll get 5 hp. like they said in the beginning, just go to the parts link at the top of the page, everything in there is good. another thing, he got a new ex for 11-12k?? if so take me to that dealership.
and by reading your posts in both this thread and in "Downshifting at red lights...." you seem to put them down in every post you had, so I in no way brought on you calling them POS

Yeah I pretty sure it was like 12 after all the tax/title bs. And the downshifting at red lights is just talk about slowing down and wear on clutches. Obviously the way the clutch engages in my car and civic's is different. I know I/H/E mods won't do that much for his car, but it'll be a start. Also what do those Vtec controllers do? I know the point of vtec is to control the lift and all that and basically optimize the engine for either low or high rpm's, but does the vtec controller just set where those adjustments are made or what?

Hey Camaro man, if you want to help your friend make his 'vic faster you will need custom turbo or a swap. Nothing else will really do anything. The reason why is because our cars are still to new. The 6th gen civics have tons of stuff you can add, but not our 7th gens.
Oh, and if you really want to race that bad I'll show up in my friends supercharged SS. It's only a small V8.

What VTEC does and this:
VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) is an electronic and mechanical system in some Honda engines that allows the engine to have multiple camshafts. VTEC engines have an extra intake cam with its own rocker. The profile on the cam keeps the intake valve open longer than the other cam profile. At low engine speeds, this rocker is not connected to any valves. At high engine speeds, a piston locks the extra rocker to the two rockers that control the two intake valves.
Hope this helps ya...Happy readings
01civic911 i wouldnt call a stock v6 camaro a big bad camaro

Damn I got ripped off.............I paid 17,770, and that was before taxes and title!!!!!!! HAHA, I seriously doubt he got that good of a deal on it!!!
ughh.. just further fueling the "domestic vs import" battle of wits and what not.. don't know what the big freakin deal is.. everyone's all about competition.. who's better who's worse.. who's a pos.. who's a whatever.. get over it.. jesus.. fast does not equal good, slow does not equal bad, cheap does not equal bad and expensive does not equal good.. it's quite simple.. it's the lack of this reasoning that many "domestics" hate "imports" and vice versa.. imports and domestics all have good and bad cars.. stop whining about who's better..
EDIT - guaranteed that if this guy never mentioned he had a camaro half of this shiet wouldn't even start.. that's the sad thing.. .

Like was said bolt ons won't give u much at all. If you want some power custom turbo/supercharger with upgrade internals, but those might be hard to find. the car could use a good P & P. That should give ya a few more there. Don't trust GUDE tho, their stuff sucks. I can't see spending over $500 for an exhaust that wont do anything. I say just get a nice intak AEM or INJEN), a header, and exhaust. Personally I would go with the HP setup because it is from the engine back which means it replaces the header, downpipe, and cat converter. DC sports makes a good header and a nice sounding exhaust tho it is ugly. At this point make the car look decent rather then going fast. a body kit, a small spoiler, some rims, etc. this civic will never be fast unless u turbo it or swap engines with a RSX-S. Just my .02 cents. Peace

No Shiot. I would like to apologize for those members who are messing with you. Most of the people here aren't like that. I personally never heard it come out of his mouth that our cars sucked, but he did say they were slow which they are.
