Hi,
I live in Portugal, have a '01 1.6ES Civic Sedan.
I think this version is sold only in the European market. It’s an 5-sp 1.6liter SOHC VTEC
During last months, I've been searching on some aftermarket part's to improve my Civic. But I'm getting some problems finding those parts.
First I tried in all local shops, even some importers.
Unfortunately, the most important aftermarket brands are not being imported to Portugal.
So I tried to look up for those on-line, from US to Japan.
But I can’t find nowhere specific material for my model. Only for the 1.7 versions…
That’s at this point that I’m asking for your help.
-What parts for the US models may be applied on my 1.6 European model?
At this moment, I’m interested in some suspension-related material (shocks, springs and strut bars) and in a CAI. Maybe later I’ll think about a new exhaust.
I suppose that the suspension parts may be compatible, but I’m not so sure about Intakes and other parts.
What do you guys think about this?
By the way my chassis reference is ES5
Thanks for your attention.
Sorry for my English but I think you can understand.

Welcome to the site!
You engine bay looks just like ours! To be honest, I am not sure about suspension. Aftermarket companies are having a hard time even here in the americas. The 2002 suspension is different from the the 2001 suspension. As for shocks, there aren't any out but the Koni's. Tokico should be releasing some by the end of the year. Springs should work, but you would have to call the companies and ask or call aftermarket parts stores/websites in Portugal. There are a few full coilover systems out, u might want to check those out. I am sure some of us could mail ya some parts if you can't get them there!! hehe If it is vtec, a AEM CAI should work, if not, you can always make your own. They don't add that much HP anyway. AS for exhausts, you will have to check around. From behind your muffler is on the same side so anything for the EX or all civics should work no prob, but don't quote me on that.
Check out the parts section and browse then compare to companies in Europe/Portugal. Good luck!! Peace
Rob

Thanks Rob
My first priority are the shocks. The factory ones are too soft.
I was thinking about some Koni Sport (yellow ones), and could just go to the importer in Portugal and order them. But to do it, I need to be sure about the reference that I need. I don’t want to order the wrong ones.
In the Koni website all I can find is: “Civic types EU7, EU8, EU9, EP1, EP2 excluding “R” “; “00-02”
Mine is the ES5. How can I know if they fit in my car?
About stores and websites here in Portugal. Those guys seem to know even less than me about this issue

Another European member. Now there's 3. Watch out coz here we come ........
There's 2 companies here in Holland/Belgium you might wanna check out. They don't have many info on the site, and they're probably to busy for anwering email fast. But you never know.
TCC (they build some of the hottest Honda's in Holland, like a 200hp 1981 Civic, or a B20 block with 400hp)
AVB
They probably don't have much experience with 7thgen Civics yet. But they're Honda specialized and can get stuff. Suspension, like Koni or Eibach springs is no problem for them at all. Getting most other parts from the US (with or without the help of someone on this site for instance) is cheaper though.
The differences in engines is not huge. I think the 1.6 VTec is exactly the same as the 1.7VTec. The 100cc difference is on the inside of the cylinderblock, in the computer and in the compression ratio. But that's about it I think. All that won't interfere with parts for the 1.7 Vtec. If looked at the 1.7VTec (ES,EX), the 1.7 (LS, LX), the1.6 VTEC (ES), the 1.6 (LS) and the 1.4 (LS), and all engines and layout in the engine compartement look exactly the same. Honda really wouldn't got to much trouble and completely do something different for one engine if it works ok for another. All engines in the 7th gen are derived from the same base model, except for the Type-R and Si(R), since that's a K series, not a D.
So as long as you stick to stuff for the US 4 door Sedan EX, they should work on your 1.6 ES. I would however stay with stuff on the "outside" of you engine, like headers, exhaust, intake etc. Stuff like new engine managemenm, new ECU, Turbo(if they ever do come available), fuel rails and stuff are perhaps a bit more stricky to take the risk. Body kits, interior etc are no problem whatsoever. Exactly the same as US sedan.
There's a difference in the suspension for the 2001 and 2002, but I don't now exactly what. I think the 2002 had better and stiffer rear shocks. You might wanna check the manufacturing date on the inside of your engine bay on the gold label on the left. You can compare that with other members and have a bit more assurance of the models being the same.
Welcome and enjoy. Let's show them us Europeans also now how to build a very nice looking 7thgen Civic

Just something I came up with myself. Don'y know if it's right or wrongQuote

EU7 is EX/HX Coupe
EU8 is LX Coupe
EU9 is DX Coupe
EP1 is EX Sedan
EP2 is LX Sedan
Excluding R is Type-R/Si/SIi(R)
Correct me if I'm wrong. Someone here must know.
So you would have an EP1, but with 1.6 instead of 1.7. So these Koni's should work. If you ever plan on installing them, take a look at this.
EM Civic suspension at HondaTuning Magazine
Your engine bay does look 100% just like ours here in North America, so the CAI should fit with no problems, as for a muffler, since they are mostly universal anyways you shoudl be able to get one, and i dont see why honda would make a different suspension for Euro models, and also your saying its too soft and thats the same problem we have here in America/Canada!
So you most likely have the same suspension....
only one way to findout for sure, and that is to try, if it doesnt fit for some reason you can always sell them here in the marketplace or on eBay...

What is the exact capacity of your engine in cc's cause it looks exactly like ours, or is there another model in europe with a 1.7lt engine???
wow sidemarkers and some sorta brake light on teh rear bumper....looks cool...
Thanks for the informations.
I have to modify my car step-by-step, thinking well about what I'm doing.
I'll only try to improve the performance after I improve the handiling... It's a matter of safety. Although I may buy a CAI before I'm done with the handling issue.
The exaust is one of the last mods I plan to do. But I inted not to change only the moffler but the all exterior line, including a 4-1 manifold. This must be the most expensive part.
thx1138:
I'll go to Amsterdam next fall.
It may be a good oportunity to buy some material and ship it myself to Portugal. It must be cheaper that way.
I've already tried in Spain, but the sedan it's sold in their market.
About the correspondence between the models you may be right.
CivicMexicano
My engine capacity is 1590cc
We also have the 1.7 (125hp), but it's only avaliable in the coupe. And it's also named ES.

Those are standard in all cars sold in Europe (At least in European Community).Quote

The light in the rear bumper is a rear fog light..
