Lower Grill Attempt #1
I was bored, so i decided to try to make a lower grill. Inspired by VNlilman's own lower grill.
I had a few design flaws, so i just ditched the project.
Total Money Wasted:
$3 on chicken wire grill
$5 on a metallic silver spray paint can
$1 on some screws
...however, a friend came over to wax his car, and we ended up making a grill for his '02 corolla type-s! hmmmm...
Failure...(I actually ended up scratching my paint because of the grill..i'm an idiot)

Success...

i didn't want to take off my bumper...that's the main reason why i was doing it all from the outside.
Damage under front bumper...a lot of the screws are messed up..

ouch, how'd you scratch up the bottom like that? forgot the car was lowered? and pre-made grill? what kind, from where, how much? cause i would have hooked you up for free.
i used the same "chicken wire"(its actually not chicken wire, its stuff used for concrete) as him... instead of using screws and what not i used fishing lines to tie it up but ya i had to remove my bumper(i would have done this for you too ak). and ya i dont like the grillcraft stuff either, costs way too much and i hate the edges and the grill is just to thick and doesnt have enough/big holes

good news, i went to another home depot and they had all sorts of good stuff. i found the mesh sheet (it was like 8 feet by 3 feet...a real biyatch to carry)...but then i was walking around the screen door section and i saw a roll of silver screen. so i got that instead. what do you guys think?? i dont know if the screen is too dense or not, i mean i dont know if its gonna create too much drag or if the air will be able to pass?? if the airflow isnt a prob, i think it might look really good...ill keep you all posted, im gonna try to DYI the grill (maybe grills) this weekend (hopefully).

i was looking into doing the DIY waaaay back. i just couldnt find the mesh at HD. i was too lazy to go to the big one like 3 towns over...but you guys motivated me! plus i helped Hawk take his front bumper off so i saw that its not that hard and that this project is quite doable.
I was thinking about doing that but could never find some decent wire mesh. Best one ive seen was from a Pizza sheet for cooking. The mesh was made of alluminum and looked like the mesh you guys have on your rides except the mesh pattern was 2 times tighter with the wires 3x wider. Very rigid. High quality stuff but I cant seem to find anything like it anywhere else. I bet the guys at Grillcraft know =) Give it up! I know your secret!
Ha =) Bottom of AK's ride looks just like mine! I got it all F@#$(ed up when I was on vacation in SoCal. They have some strange dips in the road that come out of nowhere in like the middle of a busy street. Was too busy looking for some part shops in Garden Grove them BAM! My ride took a nose dive and just trashed that one rubber thing in the bottom front of the bumper. It was an easy fix when I removed my bumper to install my Injen RD CAI.
Hey anyone know where we can get replacements for thoes plastic locks on the bottom? So far 2 were destroyed and would like to get them replaced.

so here is my update.
i woke up this morning and decided that i was gonna do the DIY grills. went to home depot again and got the same mesh stuff ak got. i had this whole plan of combining the mesh and the screen to make a kick *** grill for top and bottom. so yeah, the mesh comes in a sheet of 8 feet by like 3 feet. i was able to roughly cut out the lower grill rectangle and then my hands started to bleed. that ISHT is hard to cut. and i had wirecutters too. i tried to make it really clean tho...so anyways, lets just say the attempt was a dismal failure.
i took off the bumper and all...and tried to see if i could fit the screen stuff to replace the stock grill...nope. the screen was too thin and flimsy to leave hanging on the bottom, and theres really no way to secure it on there without some seriuos bending and cutting and molding. i think im just gonna get the altezza grill and put the screen on top of that mesh.
i would have probably been working on that till night time...but i had a party to go to, so i had to wrap the thing up and put the car together. next time im gonna set aside a weekend for this...maybe get smy measurements all figured out and cut the grill and make it ready to install so then id just have to secure it in place. but yeah...ak, im with you. that DIY is a biyatch!!! you gonna go for another try?? hehe
