Would you trade an 01 Civic for an 02 Prizm?
The Chevrolet Prizm, the so-called Toyota Corolla clone is being discontinued due to weak sales. Chevrolet is trying to sell off the remaining Prizms in stock and as an incentive is offering a $3,000 rebate. I saw one advertised for around $11,500 with the rebate plus a dealer discount of around $950. I went to the dealer to take a look, but it had already been sold. He said there has been a recent surge in interest in them since they were discontinued, probably the $3k rebate is doing it too. Most of the dealers in the area are sold out but there are a couple with a few left. At a minimum you will get the rebate. The Prizms they had the 3 speed auto, for automatics, most of the reviews recommend the 4 speed. The salesman said I was probably better off keeping the Civic anyway, because the transmission is better and it has power windows and locks, just an all around better car, although he told me I paid about $500 to $1000 too much for it. He said if I still wanted a Prizm they could look around or he said to go to the dealers that I think still have them and maybe they would match the discount and I might even find a 4 speed auto.
So let's say the MSRP is $16,000 with the 4speed and a couple of extras hopefully deduct around $4,000 that is at $12,000. Would this be a recommended deal, considering getting a good trade in for the Civic. The Prizm is a fairly well recommended car.

Dont get a prism...If you are going to get another car and sell your civic dont go american...I know it is a clone of the corolla...but it really isnt....The only thing that is toyota is the motor and tranny the rest of the car is american crap. If you want to get another car go buy the new Corolla S...dont buy its clone....Oh and about the cougar thread....Dont get one of those either. My friend has one...What a POS. He has a 2000 and it has been back at the dealer a few times already with problems....The motor mounts already went, transmission blew up and he has electrical problems. When a car gets discontinued there is usually a reason.
I agree with ricerocket. First that Ford Thread and now a Prizm

It aint about the deals, it's about the reputation of the company and the reliability of their product...

Do the people here asking about trading their cars for discontinued models realize there is a reason these cars are being discontinued? The reason is... those cars suck. Not just because they're domestic. I personally like a good amount of domestic cars, but the cars you guys are mentioning are just rediculous. These are no different that a hard-core domestic lover trading his mustang for a hyundai accent. And am I the only person who would be embarassed to drive around a cougar or a prism after having a brand new civic? You've got a new car, be content in that. If you're not, there are a lot more custom parts for our cars than either a cougar or prism. All there is for a cougar are mufflers and those rediculous TYPE R stickers that every cougar driver seems to feel they need to put on every square inch of the car. (anybody else notice that?) Theres my two cents... maybe even three.

However, the trade in is probably not going to happen. I will probably wind up keeping the Civic for 3 - 4 years. I'm not sure what I will move on to from there.
Reviews, reviews, reviews... personally no matter what we say our opinions don't count... I bet 99% of this forum would say keep the Civic. Even if they encouraged you to go for it, it'd just be like getting another review from someone. Find out yourself if you really want it. Drive it yourself. If it makes you happy, ditch the Civic for the Prizm but as a recommendation, most of us don't recommend you to do it. I don't fully understand why the Civic isn't sufficient for you but your decision should be mainly based on your experience. Go for what makes you happy.

Hondas aren't known for being luxurious and perfect. They are known for being practical and being reliable for years after they are driven off the dealer's lot. My wife and I have had 5 hondas and just recently bought a 6th one. I can attest to the fact that they are reliable for years. Yes, if you visit the vi/p forum, you will think that our cars are subpar. However, visit any of the sites on the net for other manufacturers' cars and you will find the same thing.
I do agree with you on one thing though, the rattles are annoying as hay. I don't know what went wrong. I had a '93 accord that I drove for 5 years and put 150k on that only had one rattle that was easily fixed. Anyhow, why can't you fix the rattle? Is it really so bad that it makes you want to sell the car?
