Would you trade 01 Civic for 02 Mercury Cougar?
Would anyone trade an '01 Civic for a 2002 Mercury Cougar? Since the model is being discontinued, some experts think that there might be massive discounts on Cougars. There is currently an $1500 rebate on them. Unfortunately, my initial research seems to indicate that there aren't many left. But let's say you could get a V6 Cougar for maybe the $1500 rebate plus another $3,500 discount and you can get roughly blue book trade in for the Civic, would it be a sensible deal?

When the new couger debuted a couple years ago, it was believed to be "THE SHIZ". Part of fords "New Edge" design campaign, the cougar was touted to be the first of the euro-style domestics to hit the market with hope of becoming great vehicles in terms of performance and value. Everyone wanted one, including myself during my naive Junior year in HS (4 years ago). Well . . . too many faults plague the cougar, one being the shoddy air conditioner which is said to cease functioning after a mere 3 months of use (that I can attest to, a friend of mine OWNED one, but sold it back to the dealer due to the problems). Atop that resale is poor and it's a FORD product . . . stick with your 7th gen IMO, many more possibilities and you'll save more $$$ due to Honda's reliability
I don't think they are discontinuing them, it is a fact. There will not be a 2003 Cougar.
HUH???
i think the main point everyone is missing here is how unrealistic the whole thing is anyways. they throw our those $1500 rebates to lure you in, then youre expecting them to take another $3500 off???? has anyone every bought a car they got $5000 off the sticker price brand new in the $25,000 or less price range?? ive never heard of it, that would be like a car company advertising 20-40% off all 2002 Cougars. if you could get that much, that means they really want to get rid of the car, and thats bc its a piece of excrament.
im not positive if they will be discontinuing the cougar for sure, but think about it this way. you THINK you will be saving alot of money on the discounts and rebates and so on... but just imagin the resale value on that thing. Ford products never had any real resale value anyway but just the fact that 02 or 03 would be the last year and w/ all the discounts that are apparently known to all.... i dont think you'd be able to get sh*t for that car. stick w/ the civic. correct me if im wrong. doesnt the civic have one of the highest resale...
dam it, nevermind.... do what your hearts desire.. do whatever makes Roosbok happy.

are you kidding me? First of all, the aftermarket for the Civic VS. oh what was that again? Second, the Civic will last you for about 200,000 miles, and how long will the mercury last you, Maybe 80,000 miles
these past 2 years Honda's resale value has droped drastically and now they don't have good resail value. the resail value for my car was 8,000 like 3 months ago. i had 30k miles at the time.

don't trade your honda for a cougar. i friend of mine {a girl} has one. she bought it new last year. it's the biggest piece of crap. it's always in the shop for this and that. also, practically evertime she gets in her car she finds some piece of plastic that broke off from somewhere. and oh yeah, they're pretty slow for a V-6 (the engine note isn't exactly motoring music to my ears).
