I have a hunch that the EX would get . . . OWN3D!! yeah the VW would win.. unless it breaks down in the middle of the track as their reputation for reliability would show
truthfully though, some VW's are great.. SOME

1.8T Jetta, pretty easily.
Lots of mods available too, but extended warrantry is 'recommended'
I sold my 1989 integra with 260000 KM on it (~175000 miles) and it was running perfect.
We had an Audi 5000 turbo quattro for a year and in that time, we spent more on repairs than we paid for the car.

It's the torque that hurts
. Plus, for 500 dollars you can chip the Jetta and get it up to about 240 and 240 I believe. 500 dollars on our car can get you a nice shiny exhaust, (but not 240hp worth of shininess
) DANG TURBO!!!!!!!

Wow you guys are real quick to answer that one..........
The reason I asked is b/c the guy that got me my civic was in my office and was telling me that he just got in an '02 1.8t jetta and if I wanted i could get it for a steal......but i gotta decide soon b/c it's gonna be gone by Monday(car broker gets in dealers cars real often, it's only got like 2kmiles on it)....
I dunno though, I like the civic look but I just want something fast...and don't want nitrous as my oly current option of acquiring that extra boost.

Hate to say it, but if you want speed go for the Jetta. look at my previous post, and you'll see how much pwer you can get out of a Jetta for only $500.00. My brother has a GTI 1.8T, and he's getting his chipped, then he'll be hanging with Rustangs for fun.

Or if you're still loyal to the Civic, trade in for a 6th gen coupe or a 5th gen hatch and swap a B series JDM motor in that sukka...and you're off to the races!

the 1.8T's chipped will give ya about 200HP even. the Turbo cannot develop enough boost to support that HP. Upgrading the Turbo alone puts you at the 240 mark. A guy who goes to the track often dropped about $10k into his engine and runs mid 13's on drag radials. All he did was replace the turbo. Get an intercooler..new cams. and some ECU Programming..echaust system. and Mid-pipe
well the upsolute chip will raise the HP from 180 to 230 no problem. and the torque will be around 220 or so. they are fast car...i dont care waht ppl say about how ugly or how garbage they are built...they are meant for speed cuz it's a 1.8T and our car is no where close to their league. my next car will be a vee dub 1.8T for sure.
1.8T and us are not in the same league, definitely.
If you race a 2.0 liter Jetta, you don´t even need to rev the civic to beat it, they are just plain slow.
Thing is, the VW is so expensive that for the price of a 1.8T you can probably get a Mustang GT which is a real sports car, then 1.8t is no match for the v8.
I read a comparo in a motor trend between the new Si, the focus SVT and the GTI 1.8T. the gti was the fastest in straight line acceleration, but the worst in terms of suspension (really soft). The focus ended up the leader in terms of overall car dynamics and the Si in second, mainly because of the sh$%& 15 inch 195/60 tires (who the hell put those tires in a sporty car? at least 215´s with 16 or 17 inch rims, c´mon!)

if you want speed, then i would drop the civic and get the steal on the 1.8T and pretty much if i were you follow the guidelines of what mohawk said to blow everybody out of the water.
edit: if i remember correctly, their intercooler is kind of small and not directly front mounted. i saw the engine bay of one and was talking to its owner but dammit can't picture exactly where the i.c. was...
